Duncan 3rd after James and Jordan (and ahead of Johnson and Bird) in an interesting Wash Post article.

    6. Hakeem
    7. Shaq
    8. Garnett
    9. Kobe
    10. Dirk
    11. Kareem (discussion of why, most of his success pre-merger)
    12. Malone
    13. Barkley
    14. Durant
    15. Moses Malone
    16. David R -should be higher
    17. Pippen
    18. Wade
    19. Kidd
    20. J. Irving

Can't be a legit article if a white American made the top 5.

No one gets more mileage out of a 3 year span of his career than Kevin Garnett.

Tbh a racist wouldn't complain on the order of 2 of the 4 white dudes on that list. No affirmative action when it comes to the players.

Duncan is actually 2nd because he won 5 championships. Meanwhile, LeBron is going to be 3-5 in the finals (and he's very lucky it's not 2-6).

Really lucky its not 1-7. Ray Allen shot in 2013 and last year the Draymond Green suspension coupled with a really beat-up Curry saved his rep. Otherwise he's in the Jerry West zone. 1 championship in a lot of finals appearances.

As little as I care for Kobe, putting him behind Garnett is a down right joke.

That's right......and TD is also the greatest 2-way player of the modern era, if not ever.

Kobe and Dirk should be above KG. Durant and Curry will probably be high on that list soon.

    What is this based on?

Based on stats, accomplishments, and longevity, i have a pretty clear cut ranking of which would be the top players to 'draft' to build a team around:
    1. Jordan
    2. Hakeem/shaq (tie)
    4. Duncan/lebron (very close and lebron is still going)

After that it gets debatable...i put Bird at 6 and Magic, Barkley, Malone at 7-9. I would also take Dirk ahead of Kobe

Kareem had already accomplished a good bit before the merger.....he was already a champion, Finals MVP, a 4x MVP, and several All-NBA and All-Defensive selections before then. Wilt retired in 1973, 3 years before the merger.

@ garnett being above Kobe, Dirk, Wade, Pippen, and maybe D-rob. how come he never gets penalized for playing on and winning his lone le with one of the most stacked teams of the last 20 years?

Even tho it hurts to say as a spurs fan, if drafting one player to build a team around, id give the edge to garnett over robinson even though i dont like him. Drob was amazing at his peak but his peak window was relatively short. Garnetts peak he put numbers almost identical to drob, yet he maintained a high level of play for much, much longer than robinson was able to. Also, even though hes a bag, he had fire and drive to win, killer instinct ect,..more than nice guy drob could ever conjure up. Drobs tended to underwhelm in the playoffs, while garnetts numbers went even higher. Look into the numbers for both. Both needed other alphas on their team to win a le, so that arguement is moot

don't see what? how he doesn't get penalized or how the 2008 celtics were one of the most stacked teams in recent memory?
