He felt the same last summer. Finally the cat is let out of the bag.

Spurs can finally move on, even if its a year late.. tbh. Get cap space and a top 20 pick and use the pick to draft John Collins, Jordan Bell or Bam Adebayo. Lets Go!
But how much more has his Spurs bashing undermined his value? I fear that THIS YEAR the Spurs will get pennies on the dollar.

Spurs will probably have to give up a first to get rid of Aldridge.

It's been said, but Aldridge is at best a third option on a championship team, and that's clearly a role he would never accept, so moving him is the only thing to do. He can go ahead and be the first option on a bad team if that's what he needs.

My guess is they already know whether Chris Paul is the choice or not.
I think the LMA situation has introduced an element of fluidity. Paul has likely been taken by surprise. Perhaps the Spurs seem like a deteriorating situation - depending on the gets for LMA and even Danny. CP3 has no way of projecting the Spurs' next edition.

They would never do that. They'll get something for LMA if they trade him.

I don't think it will hurt his value that much more. His play and him having that opt out after next year was already holding down his value. To be quite honest, him thinking Spurs "compromised his talents" actually increases his value to a degree. Why does it increase his value a little bit? Because now LA and his agent are telling teams LA is a better player than he displayed last year putting up 17 and 7. I can see him going to PHX and committing to them long term.

ramon shelbourne reported that spurs have "strong interest" in both CP3 and derrick rose. for whatever that's worth.

If Paul is coming on board, he knows what our plan is.

There hasn't been a sure-fire draft since Oden-Durant and one of those players sucked. The last 'sure thing' draft was Wiggins-Parker and both those players suck balls as stars.

Fact is, the NCAA has been turning in crap and the league is suffering for it. There have been no stars for years.
There are good lottery players in the previous years like KAT but what I noticed is that the league is now losing or lacking alpha/compe or at ude from the younger ones.
Heck even our own LMA is not. Well atleast Murray seems a compe or.

I hope you are right about Phoenix. That would be our saving grace.

OTOH, I'm not sure whining ever increases a player's value. In all my job interviews (non-basketball. ) I was careful never to say anything negative about previous employers.

I serioudly doubt this is any surprise to the Spurs. It just got leaked now. As no surprise to the Spurs. I doubt it was any surprise to Paul.

They would make him play out his contract before they do that.

This happens to be the year where trading him for cap space itself is a great thing.

I'm not saying there are no good players, I'm saying there are no immediate stars, guys who are ready to change a team right away.

Something has happened. I partly blame Calipari and Coack K. They suck up so much talent and don't do to develop them in two different ways. There may be other problems, too, but the pipeline is right now.

As an expression "pennies on the dollar" can also mean a #16 pick instead of a #5. You can always just dump a salary to merely clear space, but cleared cap space is not all that the Spurs will get. They will get a pick, too. Or a young prospect.

First red flag was wanting to play in that hole Phoenix Suns. 2nd was him coming into camp looking out of shape. I would have traded him right then and there.

I just don't think CP3 would be that intimately acquainted with the Spurs' inner workings. There is such a thing as tampering - even in the NBA.

Yeah I agree. Or maybe the NBA needs more a new team. I'm not sure but I get you. In the last decade you could have a rookie who will have an immediate impact or close to an all-star caliber player.

    LA to PHX

    Bledsoe to Utah

    24th, 30th, rights to MIA 18' 1st to SA

    or

LA, rights to Milutinov, 29th to PHX

    Bledsoe to Utah

    4th, 24th to SA.

Which deal is more likely? And would you do it?

The former. PHX isn't giving away the 4th for anything less than a young star. Would I do it? Maybe. I'd LIKE a better draft pick but you need to take what you can get for this bum.

If Paul is the guy we're making all the cap moves for, the Spurs know he's coming, and he has a high degree of understanding about what we're going to do. Do you really think "we're going to gut our whole team to sign you" would be appealing to him?

I still have my doubts it's Paul though, Spurs seem to focus more on value than that. Still expecting someone like Holliday, Hill, Lowry for a cheaper deal, with the excess being used to get more assets to build a strong team with. It's hard to predict what those will be, gotta trust the process and have faith in R.C. and the front office's cap gymnastics.

Well, we can agree on one thing. I have never been convinced that the Spurs were going to get Paul, and I have never wanted them to. (Perhaps their experience with LMA has made PATFO a little more skeptical about chasing high-priced, older stars.) I think the Spurs have more needs than just a PG, and they need to stretch their dollars a little more wisely.
