plays with composure and poise. high bb iq, great passer, can post, can finish at the rim. he can be solid for us.
Green signed his last contract coming into an off-season where the market for three-and-D guys was almost identical to where it is now. We're talking about the summer of Demarre Carroll, and the same summer where SVG offered significantly more to Danny to go to DET. I don't see why all the sudden he'd be getting a huge deal now. Robert Covington? Definitely.
Hill is one of the few former Spurs of note in the league that left before the team moved to the motion offense. He's not really a fit in anything other than he's not vocal. Dude sent out pics of himself, dyed his hair blonde and had pissing matches with Spurs fans on Twitter. He's not anti-Spurs to any degree, but he's not someone you bring in to help balance out a locker room in flux.
It's just weird that you say on one hand that Danny will earn a big contract next summer and on the other hand say he's worth dumping for the last single lass at the ball. I don't know what they will or won't do, but a team keeping Parker's contract on their books is obviously not in the business of maximizing their talent.

Btw, this is what I thought Simmons would likely command:
You state that as It's a matter of fact.![]()
Pop wants to retire coaching his favorite player...he's too old to mess with boogie or swaggy p
Det 2018 flexibilty though![]()
I've been saying that a two-year deal at the MLE with an option makes sense for both sides. Either the team gets a guy relatively cheap even if he busts, or Simmons is good, opts out and is still an RFA. Seems like the best balance of risk for the Spurs, and if Simmons believes in himself, it works too, because he doesn't actually lose any potential salary next year taking this type of deal over signing an Arenas deal.
I'm not going to repeat what I said, other than, why would Re supposedly get that, but Green wouldn't?
They're not getting back to the "beautiful game" with Leonard and potentially Murray eventually as their two primary ball handlers anyway. That's a pipe dream. Hill's a fit with them and despite those incidents, Pop and Buford love him.
Spurs are now just like most everyone: they need talent and they can't afford to be overly picky about it. Also, it's just not Hill or Green because Green could be turned into a 1st (and if Hill is signed and Simmons re-signed, probably will be). So Hill for $2-4M more and a 1st or Green?
Yep - the dude is not worth MAX value. Nope.
I can't stomach it. Make the Tucker and Korver talk go away.![]()
I lamented all year that we used Deadman's roll game in our offense very infrequently.
I appreciate that. I don't think the Re comparison makes any more sense than the Carroll one. Green has had two opportunities to leave for the highest bidder after having great contract years and didn't. I don't see why he'd decide to go for it this time. It's possible a random team would offer that if he has a third great contract year. But if he requires a deal the Spurs can't/won't match, he'll leave, and that will be fine.
"The Beautiful Game" as you seem to be describing it was a state the offense reached every once in a while. It was not their regular offense those seasons. Their regular offense looked a lot like it does now, but it was quicker and more decisive. Getting back to that state is hardly asking for the moon. They need someone who can run the Zipper Series again (meaning a mid-range PG with wheels) and a big who can hit shots in the post (Leonard could actually do this if the team gets a stretch-big).They're not getting back to the "beautiful game" with Leonard and potentially Murray eventually as their two primary ball handlers anyway. Hill is hardly an ideal fit for this type of offense. He fits sort of with Leonard if the team commits to the iso-heavy bogged down execution they've suffered from the last two-and-a-half seasons. If they want to actually start leveraging Kawhi's talent to get good looks, they'll go elsewhere.
It's not Hill at a bit more and a pick for Green. It's Hill locked into a long-term contract over a Green going into a contract year then expiring. The first may or may not be good (like the OKC first Orlando owns is terrible). Even if Green were traded, I'm not keen to offer the money to Hill.Spurs are now just like most everyone: they need talent and they can't afford to be overly picky about it. I've never understood the fascination so many Spurs fans have with Livingston.
Just because he always posts and dominates the crap spurs midgets like Porker and Mills doesn't mean he's that great, he just looks great against the Spurs. Once Murray got matched with him he was neutralized.
If Spurs sign Hill they better dump Parker and go after Jame Johnson. There isn't even a spot on the team in coming years if they have expectations for Murray.
Hill
Green
Leonard
Johnson
Aldridge
PATFO has been in win-now mode. With all that has happened so far this off-season, they will have to make a decision: jettison Parker to continue in that mode or carry his $15MM carcass and have a serious retooling year. Trying to do both this season seems like complete schizophrenia to me.
If the Spurs REALLY want to win now they'd trade TP(preferably) or Green and LMA or Gasol. Otherwise, it's going to be much of the same, or just the team minus Green plus Hill which doesn't make you all that much better anyway.
Would you sign Hill 64/4 and get rid of Green ? I would.do it.
Not for four years no.
If Hayward really does value playing with GHill, then that seems like a dream - not a pipe-dream, but a dream.
