Looks like they're going to have to desperately overpay for Simmons.

I was not happy with Murray overall. His vision was solid and made good passes, but none of the issues that he had last season appear to be resolved: Shooting (didn't really get to see), finishing in the paint (still could not finish and didn't see any other moves other than that tough floater he loves) & defensive positioning.
His handle is still high, but improved from what I could see and his vision was very solid. But need to see more in the above 3 areas for me to really gain optimism.
Obviously things will be masked playing with Danny/Kawhi backing you up in the NBA but he needs to learn to finish in traffic. Just as much as shooting that will be so big for him as his skill is getting into the lane.
He got plenty of minutes to show something. He made some nice passes to the perimeter but the squad couldn't hit anything out there. He needs to play with more control. White looked more poised out there than Murray. Dejounte looked wild.
Blossomgame, 0-8, 24 minutes
Whittington,, 19 minutes
Forbes, 3-14, 29 minutes
Hanlan, who?, 16 minutes
Murray w/ 16 minutes
I'd be pissed too. Will Hardy is the Jim Boylen of the summer league
Im fine with mistakes, especially for Murray. You don't become great by being risk adverse. I just want to see improvement in the key areas.
White is really already a solid player but I just question how much impact he could really have vs NBA players. But one big plus for me with White was how good he was off the ball. He basically played off the ball the entire time and showed great feel for sliding into good spots, cutting, etc..He was easily the best off the ball player on the floor for SA.
Maybe his role will be his ability to be the secondary creator, like Kyle Anderson, once the ball is swung with his ability to shoot and dribble. He's not a PG but he's solid enough when a defense is rotating to make moves with the ball and finish or dish.
Worst offense in the league.![]()
Imagine if Danny had that skillset. It would be huge. We will have to see if White can actually defend worth a damn, but if he can, that secondary creator/shooter is pretty nice to have.
Lots of guys get drafted for that reason: Evan Turner, Denzel Valentine, etc...
if danny could dribble the ball he'd be paid twice as much as he is now.
I didn't get to see the game but White sounds promising. The second unit desperately needs someone that will be able to handle the ball and run the offense, especially if Manu doesn't come back.
You mean getting the ball with 14 seconds and holding it then dribbling into defenders because he can't beat them one on one then taking a bad shot. Ok.![]()
After this game, Spurs might want to call George Hill again and see work out a deal, before its too late.
Leading scorer of an elimination game where the starters sat the second half..
That is some try hard stuff right there. Anderson has uses, he's never been a regular rotation player. Has had more opportunity than any other young player on the team. Hit the brakes there.
I thought they should before the game.
Pretty square on target. The only thing I'd say is that, other than a few super-stars, nobody finishes well in the half court going 1-on-3. What I'm seeing out of Murray is a lack of court awareness. A lot of the time he doesn't know when he takes off if he's heading to the hole, or driving to draw attention so he can kick to a teammate. By the time he figures it out, it's too late.
Last year I questioned whether they should use him as a slashing 2 guard. I'm still convinced he can be a very good slasher. Not everybody has the court awareness to play the point, and not many can learn it. He's young, and I'm far from writing him off at any position. But I think that's where he really has to improve, to be an NBA-level PG. I think his handles are good enough, if he's not pushing himself into bad situations so often. IMO, FWIW, Etc.
I agree with that. His vision actually gives me optimism that he can play point.
bait ignored
It's not bait. Your go to has been "Kyle had a great playoff run"
Dude wasn't cracking the rotation until Kawhi and parker got hurt. He had 2 good games in the playoffs and one is a game when the spurs were down 0-3 and severally out matched.
The best thing I can say from that is that Kyle at least continued to play, but to make that your calling card for him is just silly.

Dude going in harder than a pornstar.![]()

Trolls ignored too... didn't read any of that just saw I was cited. Don't waste your time... or do whatever...
Who's trolling?
We can talk the numbers if you want? We can go back and watch the playoffs and see what Kyle did.
But keep telling yourself he had a "terrific playoff run" or why don't you tell me how LMA was signed to hold the spot until Kyle was ready again.
You are by far the worst poster on this board, and that is saying something with some of the crap that is spewed here. I'm just calling you on it now.
Its been 5 weeks from when the season ended. Its impossible to make real big gains in 5 weeks. After July, he'll have 3 months to work until the real lights come on.
Patience.
You remember watching him in last year's SL? Very, very aggressive - but sort of a black hole? I don't think it's a coincidence that he had 5 dimes tonight. And he'd likely have had more if guys had made some shots.
It looks like they've got him working at being a real point. When you're still having to think about things, you're going to look a little hesitant and out of rhythm. He wasn't a black hole, and it looks like he's working on exactly the things the Spurs need most from him. As long as he's improving, that's what SL is all about for guys who already have contracts.
Agree again ^
Im not knocking the guy - just simply evaluting the performance tonight. But you can tell he's working on distributing the ball.
