Per-36 vs GS Points Assists Rebounds Steals Blocks Anderson 17 6 11 3 1 Simmons 20 4 4 1 0
Far superior advanced stats for the playoffs too.
Seems like Spurt is a little confused himself.![]()

I can agree with that then. The only factor that I think Simmons has in his favor is going back to the Houston series, but I'm not in the boat of overpaying Simmons or wanting him to start for this team.
He's a top 3 gay poster.
Number 1 is spur got followed by thegreat got.
Not ideal, but for the price and contract length, I'm cool with it-- a low risk, high reward type of move..
Spurs needed more off-dribble bucket-getters to take the pressure off Kawhi..Gay is a vastly superior offensive player than Simmons, and would probably stay as such post-Achilles, but his defense is the real question mark..
Anderson played against Memphis with both Kawhi and CP on the team. The chart just points out that Kyle outplayed Simmons in that series. It only looks good for Simmons if you ignore the minutes disparity.
Gasol
Aldridge
Gay
Klaw
Murray
I can see this as the starting 5.
The Spurs really want simmons back. They wouldn't give a about fathead if the roles were switched.![]()
I think the wording was just weird. When I read pairing I assumed he meant how Rudy will fit overall with the team/culture/org. Not specific pairings on the court (if that's what you were thinking)
Would be so horrible. Gasol and Murray spacing for Iso City. Gay off an injury guarding the Hardens of the world so Kawhi can get a rest.
so several things:
- message to Simmons
- it adds another very good and skilled player (post injury) to a roster that has already won back to back 60 win seasons
- the Spurs may call it a day now in this FA but it doesn't break the bank. The spurs can go crazy next year and even attempt to get someone like LBJ, etc while the other stacked teams would most likely be in trouble cap-wise. Most other teams are loading up and using cash now in order to compete now with the Warriors.
Just random thoughts
Gut punch.
The hope is that somebody offers JSimms a deal at +/- $8MM that makes him a reasonable gamble for the Spurs.
We need one or two more quality players to compete with golden state
Warriors were trying to get him before settling for Nick Young. Am assuming Spurs physicians checked him out prior to the offer being extended.
Good move all things considered.
Anderson played 17, 7, 18, 6 and 2 minutes in the 6 games against Memphis, including a DNP.
Against Houston he was at 12 , 4, 2, 15, 6, and 20.
This narrative has been built on Spurstalk that he really showed up in the playoffs and outplayed everyone on the team except Kawhi. This is a completely false narrative. He was bench fodder for most of the playoff run and didn't really touch the rotation until Kawhi and TP went down and we were just playing out games.
I think Kyle can be a borderline rotation player in the league. If he's your 8-10 guy on the bench I think he's fine, but people are talking about him playing starting PF or being the 6 man on the team. He has done nothing to even hint that he can fill that type of role.
For old time sake, why don't you show Tony Parker from last year vs Memphis and Houstion.
LMA/Gay/Leonard/Green/Murray is the starting lineup I expect to see. I think we may be stuck with Pau multiple years now. If they resign Simmons then they probably have to give Pau a multiple year deal to avoid the tax.
Sandy in pretty much any sport, an achilles heel injury is pretty bad and the player is never the same anymore. If I'm not mistaken Kobe had this too. It basically kills their ability to jump as well as before. Let's see I have faith in this signing- it looks like he's been taking care of himself and training, etc. And he's still very young.
There's no way Gay is going to effectively play SF, tbh..I'm sure they'll try it, but it'll fail..even prior to the devastating injury, nearly 40% of his minutes were at PF in today's NBA..with the injury undoubtedly taking away some of his physical gifts, he's definitely going to fit better at the 4..
that lineup and spurs bench watch out nba tbh
That's all well and good. You can think that. But you said that Anderson only got into the rotation once Kawhi and Parker got hurt. That wasn't true. He was ahead of Simmons in the rotation to start the post-season. Who knows what would have happened had Kawhi and Parker been healthy? I don't. But against a team that loves playing small, I don't think he would have been stuck to the bench.
