Exactly, it would be entertaining to see how that team operates with those 3.
For as much as Melo's received, he's always excelled with Team USA. He's looked good with talent and playing off the ball and off others.
Never been a huge fan of his, but respect his game - was kind of intrigued to see him on the Spurs when I first saw the reports he was on the chopping block.

James Harden would be the first player to sign under the new Designated Player Veteran Extension (DPVE). Steph Curry signed as a FA.

We all knew this was happening, but Rockets are going to be s ing out $75 million+ in year to their starting backcourt. Add in $20+ million to Anderson that can't be moved (who on earth touched that?) and they're going to be pushing $100 million without anyone else.
That's why descimating trade assets outside of Capella was so dangerous. Houston's window closes before Golden State's.
That's if Paul decides to re-sign with them next summer.

Also, paying out the nose into the luxury tax kills teams in the end. It will be the death of the Warriors before long.

I have to catch myself and realize it's not about that for most. There's only a few players in the league at a time, sometimes one or two, that should have a team blowing their wad to keep - players that bring championships into the equation. It's about generating excitement, putting on a show and bringing in revenue under the guise of a chance to fans (who don't know - or don't want to know - any better).
I'm sure it pays off for some on the bottom line - those that have the right kind of star(s) and cities/fanbases - but hard for me to believe that's what they have in Houston.
Unless ... the Chinese are loyal to this day.
Unless you're worth 11 figures ($10bn plus), it's impossible to go that deep into the luxury tax every year. The Warriors made $300mm of revenue last year and could be paying $300-$400mm to players in a few years. Yes, they'll be in a new arena and all, but on top of revenue sharing and other expenses, they'll be hemorrhaging money. Already won rings, and at the end of the day you want to make some money from investments.
That's what people don't seem to get about Lebron. Miami essentially let him go because he just wasn't worth what he was costing the Heat due to paying his friends. People act like Lebron has been making Gilbert a ton of money and that Gilbert should be grateful that James decided to come back. But it's a best a two-way street.
Confused as to what that means. Is that a binding contract or something similar to a QO? I heard before that it was a Euro-only thing, but I also didn't think it was something Hanga had to sign.

Thanks. I guess that it also applies even if Hanga comes over to the NBA, like how Toronto keeps giving Nando a QO to keep his NBA rights. This may not mean that he's not about to sign with the Spurs. But it could imply that it is a one- or two-year deal and that he's keen to go back to Europe if he doesn't get the playing time or role he envisions.
The Spurs are probably still waiting on Simmons.
I'd be very surprised if it doesn't choke them at the vine. The amount a guy like Nick Young will cost them is unbelievable. They'll probably regret this stuff big time. Plus a major reason why it's hard to keep dynasties going is because the role players are hard to replace. You stop having draft picks, you are still paying old guys who don't produce. When we lost Sean it took years to find Bowen. I'm sure a parade of near-retirement players will knock on their door, but will that work? They just signed Iguodala for several years. How long will he actually be effective, and they'll still be on the hook? Who can they afford to replace him at that point?
