How Trump Is Dragging America's Image Down

Isolated and disdained on the world stage, he keeps making us look worse.

when a recent Ipsos poll in 25 countries asked whether various countries exercised a positive influence on world affairs,

Canada scored the highest, with 81 percent of respondents saying their influence was a good one.

The United States was down at 40 percent—a 24-point drop from where it was when the poll was taken a year ago.

While a median of 64 percent of people in foreign publics said they trusted the American president when it was Barack Obama, that number has now plunged to 22 percent.

The number expressing a favorable view of the United States has fallen from 64 percent to 49 percent.

Trump Continues to Profit Lavishly From Golf Club Membership Fees

Trump "put in place unusual policies that allowed him to keep the high one-time fees charged to new members and put language in his club rules that allowed him to spend the money on anything he wanted."

Typically, as McClatchy notes in a new report, golf club membership fees "take the form of refundable deposits."

But Trump "put in place unusual policies that allowed him to keep the high one-time fees charged to new members and put language in his club rules that allowed him to spend the money on anything he wanted," McClatchy's Anita Kumar writes.

Now, each time someone joins one of his clubs, Trump himself pockets the fee.

    Kumar continues:

    Whether it's the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., where the U.S. Women's Open Golf Championship starts Monday;

    the club outside the nation's capital, where the president often spends time over the weekend;

    the historic Mar-a-Lago Club, where he hosted the president of China and the prime minister of Japan;

or one of his other exclusive addresses, each

collects a hefty initiation fee from new members—up to $450,000 per person, with annual dues on top of that.

Throughout his short tenure in the White House, Trump has frequently visited his many clubs, trips critics have characterized as attempts to bolster his business profile.

"In the more than five months he has been in office, Trump has visited Mar-a-Lago on 25 days and his golf clubs on 36 days, sometimes more than once a day, according to a compilation of information released by the White House," Kumar writes.

Trump Bragged Of Saving Us $600 Million On F-35 Jets. Pentagon Says Price Just Skyrocketed

    Earlier this year,

Trump personally lobbied Lockheed Martin to bring down what he called the “runaway costs”

of the F-35 fighter jets being built as the next generation jet for the U.S. military.

On January 30, he announced that because of his pressure, the costs of the program was going to be reduced by $600 million.

Today, however, in a report to Congress, the reality came out:

the cost of the most expensive weapons system in U.S. history is actually going up another $27 billion to over $406 billion.

Trash and Bannon punishing the FBI

U.S. government scraps plans to replace crumbling FBI headquarters

The Trump administration has scrapped a $1.4 billion plan to replace the crumbling headquarters of the FBI and ended a years-long effort to find the crime-fighting agency a new home, officials said on Tuesday.

The decision leaves the Federal Bureau of Investigation in a 1970s-era building that has nets rigged to catch falling stone and is too small to house its burgeoning work force.

Democratic members of Congress blamed President Donald Trump's administration for the cancellation.

Maryland's Democratic lawmakers said in a statement that Congress was committed to funding the project fully.

Representative Gerry Connolly, a Virginia Democrat, said in a statement that the decision showed Trump's conflicts of interest with the FBI, the GSA and Vornado Realty Trust, one of the bidding companies.

Trump Just Got Slapped With A Humiliating Twitter Lawsuit

A novel lawsuit that may well have merit has been filed against President Trump and others by Twitter users who were blocked from the the realDonaldTrump account after they wrote things Trump apparently did not like.

The suit argues that Trump’s account is a government forum and that as a government official the president has not right to block them from it, according to the Knight First Amendment Ins ute at Columbia University in New York City, which is representing the plaintiffs.

“The realDonaldTrump account is a kind of digital town hall

in which the president and his aides use the tweet function to communicate news and information to the public,” says the suit,

“and members of the public use the reply function to respond to the president and his aides and exchange views with one another.”

When Trump blocks people for viewing his tweets or replying, argues the suit, he is violating their First Amendment rights just because he does not like what they may be writing about him or his tweets.

Even Trump has tweeted that his is not an ordinary Twitter account:

My use of social media is not Presidential - it’s MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL. Make America Great Again!

Christopher Wray Will Not Be Trump’s Stooge

The president wants his FBI director to do his bidding. Too bad he’s nominated another James Comey.

The move didn’t work. Wray, a total unknown outside the federal law enforcement community, was the furthest thing from a splashy “statement” pick.

Instead of finding someone who might chart a defiant new course at the FBI—someone like Joe Lieberman, the former senator, who was reportedly
under consideration before Wray got the nod—he’d settled on a former federal prosecutor who identified strongly with the ins utional culture of the Justice Department and the FBI.

In other words, he’d picked another James Comey.

the “something” Trump picked up on—Comey’s awkward reticence in the face of improper advances, his total refusal to play ball on Michael Flynn—was exactly the same “something” the FBI’s rank-and-file investigators had liked and respected about their boss.

Given Wray’s long history at DOJ—he put in five years as an assistant U.S. attorney in Georgia working with Sally Yates, then five more in the halls of Main Justice working with Comey and Robert Mueller—I would bet that Wray has that something, too.

So long as someone like that is in charge of the FBI, it’s safe to say Trump will never get what he wants out of the agency.

The FBI’s very purpose is at odds with everything he stands for as president, and its culture and values are strong enough to resists his blunt-force efforts to mold the place in his image.

Trump Was Just Caught In A Major Lie About His Businesses

To the surprise of no one, Trump has managed to slip under that bar while either ignoring or flouting many of his own promises and the cons utional emoluments clauses.

“True to form,” reports The Intercept, “Trump promised the bare minimum and did even less.”

In January, Trump held a press conference where he stood in front of stacks of papers and briefing books that he said were proof he was resigning from all of his many businesses, which would now be run by his two sons and one of his company executives.

At that time Walter Shaub, Director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, complained that Trump’s plan “doesn’t meet the standards that …every president in the past four decades has met.”

The Intercept did a search last month to see if in fact he had resigned as promised and found

he was still listed as the chief executive officer of at least four of the companies.

He refused to put his business in a blind trust like all other modern presidents and still gets updates at least every quarter from his sons, if not more often.

He sought and got a waiver after violating the law in regard to the leasing of the government-owned property that is now a Trump hotel only blocks from the White House.

“This shows the sloppiness Trump’s organization has with respect to ethics requirements,” Richard Painter, who was George W. Bush’s White House chief ethics officer told The Intercept.

“They don’t even want to do what they’ve said they’re going to do.

They should be correcting the filings.

People out to be able to look and see who has the authority to act on behalf of these companies.”

Trump has been the least transparent, most devious president of the modern era and seems to revel in it.

He is the same person who during the election campaign when challenged for all his tax dodges called it smart business.

Even after claiming to have separated from his businesses, he found a loophole that allows him to take cash out of the businesses without any public disclosure.

A quick reminder that colluding with Russia isn't Donald Trump's only crime: emoluments

The State Department spent more than $15,000 to book 19 rooms at the new Trump hotel in Vancouver when members of President Trump’s family headlined the grand opening of the tower in late February.

    This wasn’t a presidential trip.

It wasn’t a trip by Secretary of State Tillerson.

And we’re not talking about the cost of the Secret Service.

This was a trip featuring Donald Jr., Eric and … hey, look at that, Tiffany Trump, all in Vancouver to open a new Trump Hotel.

But $15,000 worth of rooms for the State Department?

Trump has already chopped the State Department budget and the staff.

Why would the few staffers who remain be at a hotel opening?

The department redacted many of the details on the invoice from the U.S. Consulate General in Vancouver

and declined to provide additional information about the nature of the State Department’s presence at the hotel.

White House Just Announced Unprecedented Role For Ivanka Trump

Ivanka Trump’s statement that she “she tries to stay out of politics,” was absurd at the time. Now, it seems as if she was intentionally trolling the country. Not only is she deeply involved with her father’s administration, she’s seeking deeper involvement.

CNN reports that Ivanka will receive top security clearance and an office in the West Wing.

The news comes amidst increasing calls for her husband, Jared Kushner, to have his security clearance revoked

    http://washingtonjournal.com/2017/07...-ivanka-trump/

How many lies and forgotten contacts will her security forms contain?
