Today is the 1-year anniversary of Tim Duncan's retirement. What is your favorite memory of The Big Fundamental?
Mine is actually when we won the 1997 lottery. I'll never forget seeing Boston's 2nd card being pulled at the #3 spot, then the Sixers at #2. I just lost it at that point. I thought getting TD was a pipe dream, so I was the happiest 17-year old on the planet.
Game 5 in the 2014 Finals when he pushed Ginobili in the head after Manu dunked on Bosh. It's like he knew it was over and 2013 was made right. It was perfect.
That time he was drafted and saved our franchise from relocation.
The day he re-signed with the Spurs instead of joining super teams with Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady or taking a pay cut to win les with Kobe and Shaq.
This. Absolutely this
Yeah that was a special moment. I was lucky enough to be there. A surreal night!
I always loved the 3pt shot on the Suns. That was just classic.![]()
I definitely remember him almost going to Orlando, but not him thinking about playing with Shaq and Kobe.
I only threw that in there because it would have been the equivalent of Kevin Durant, and entirely unthinkable in that era.
Ok gotcha.
never knew that happened.
I like the time he drank the Gatorade
2014 ... confetti ... arms raised ... the one and only time he showed that he exactly knew this whole dynasty exists because of him
Anytime he played on defense. Looking at this current Spurs roster I'm very concerned about how bad the defense could potentially be.
2013 when he hit the floor as time was running out. I know it's not a happy memory but it left a mark for me. I can't articulate why exactly.
His first playoff game as a rook where he went ballistic and shat on the Suns for numerous possessions in a row. He was clearly something special from the get go
Even though we didn't ring, that 3 pointer against PHX was pretty damn memorable for me.
My favorite as well...can you imagine what da suns fan was feeling at that moment?Dude's finger was likely on the trigger.
Not sure I can say one is without-a-doubt my favorite, but him taking a on Shaq, Kobe and the whole city of LA in Game 6 of '03 was the first thing that came to mind.
this is actually false. orlando was planning to sign both hill and duncan. mcgrady was plan b incase duncan opted to stay in SA, which he did.
edit: as for OP, game 6 2003 WCS.
During the lockout 1999. I go to Fill Life Fitness Center one evening with my 9 yo son to play some ball. Everyone is on one end of the court and Duncan is by himself shooting on the other end. My son's ball rolls down toward Tim. Noah runs down to it. Tim picks it up and asks Noah if he wants to play some one on one. He gives Noah the ball, lets him drive in for a lay up. Noah makes it and Tim says Aw, you beat me. Then Noah shags balls for him. Everyone in the gym wanted to be Noah.
I'm just glad to have such a great friend, tbh.
The time he knocked the bat out of the air.
