So according to this it was a power move...

Edit: ... If he doesn't come down on his asking price they just move on. Nobody stopping him from getting a raise now. Let's see if anyone bites.

    Can't wait till Kawhi leaves

Manure has officially cost us Boban and Simmons. Who the knows how much the Spurs will pay him this time to make some donuts in the playoffs

can we officially say Manu is coming back now? they have more money to give to Pau and Manu.. and that would complete the roster.
Even if Manu comes back we still need to sign another wing. A lot of unproved players on that spot for us.

Great, bring him along for two years and give plenty of playoff minutes to.
Instead re up Patty for 4 ing years.
Spurs overpaid the most replaceable free agent they had at 12:01am

I hate Deadman, but at least he played defense

Unless they trade somebody, the signing of Paul, Manu, and Pau would give us 15

Should of just taken the reported 9 per when FA started but likely got greedy for 2 or 3 games worth of production
He should've taken the 9 mill...

Sure would be a luxury if Argie would make up his mind and not hamstring the franchise every year

San Antonio is still negotiating with Jonathan Simmons as an UFA, league sources tell ESPN.

This just means someone offered him a lot of money and the Spurs didn't want to match right?
basically yes.. Knicks or another team has offered him something more than Spurs would want to pay. They probably need the cash to pay another big somewhere down the line.

Vey interesting time for Simmons and his career. He could flame out... It would be best to stay and further establish yourself instead of risk a Lance like regression elsewhere in uncharted waters

NIG mistake... Now we have NO slashers, except Murray....doesn't make sense to have a lot of shooters if no one can get open because the defense isn't being broken down

    sooooo...this means either:
    1) He has a large offer from another team(unlikely).
    2) He isn't getting much action and now the Spurs want to attempt to sign him for less than their original offer?

This is strange. Why would they renounce him if they are still negotiating with him?

Very possible that they wanted to clear up the space his QO was taking up and avoid having to wait out another team's offer. May mean that there are more moves coming soon.

This is a drastic shift. His QO amount didn't matter if the Spurs are operating above the cap. Renouncing him while still trying to re-sign him also doesn't make sense, they will need to use the LLE now whereas if they kept his QO they could use the LLE on someone else.

Patty hasn't actually signed his contract yet, has he? If the Spurs are still trying to use cap space he would have to sign after it's used up. But which FAs are out there that would be worth re-jiggering everything at this point to use cap space after all?
