How Trump Is Transforming Rural America

In Colorado, the President’s tone has started rubbing off on residents.

During my last meeting with Matt Patterson, I asked whether Trump’s behavior might limit his effectiveness even while appealing to his base. “I see your point,” Patterson said, but he still believed that Trump would accomplish great things.

“If Trump turns out to be a failure, I’ll take responsibility for that,” he said. “For my share.”

We were at a coffee shop, and Patterson wore his goth look: silver jewelry, painted nails.

“I’ve never been this emotionally invested in a political leader in my life,” he said.

“The more they hate him, the more I want him to succeed. Because what they hate about him is what they hate about me.”

Trump’s Air War Has Already Killed More Than 2,000 Civilians

Civilian casualties from the U.S.-led war against the so-called Islamic State are on pace to double under President Donald Trump

Airwars researchers estimate that at least 2,300 civilians likely died from Coalition strikes overseen by the Obama White House—roughly 80 each month in Iraq and Syria. As of July 13, more than 2,200 additional civilians appear to have been killed by Coalition raids since Trump was inaugurated—upwards of 360 per month, or 12 or more civilians killed for every single day of his administration.

The Coalition’s own confirmed casualty numbers—while much lower than other estimates—also show the same trend. Forty percent of the 603 civilians so far admitted killed by the alliance died in just the first four months of Trump’s presidency, the Coalition’s own data show.

Trump Recertifies Iran Nuclear Deal, but Only Reluctantly

Mr. Trump has repeatedly condemned the deal brokered by President Barack Obama as a dangerous capitulation to Iran, but six months into his presidency he has not abandoned it.

    The decision on Monday
was the second time his administration certified Iran’s compliance,

Trump Just Bragged About Creating 45,000 Coal Jobs. Bill Maher’s Response Is Epic

During an event celebrating American manufacturing this week, Trump said:

“In Pennsylvania, two weeks ago, they opened a mine, the first mine that was opened in decades…

Well, we picked up 45,000 mining jobs in a very short period of time.

    Everybody was saying,

‘Well, you won’t get any mining jobs,’

we picked up 45,000 mining jobs.

Well, the miners are very happy with Trump and with Pence, and we’re very proud of that.”

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released an estimate that

there are roughly 50,800 coal mining jobs nationwide,

only 800 of which have been created during the Trump era.

    Bill Maher
    @billmaher

When Trump says "We've added 45,000 mining jobs" who is that lie for? The miners must know its not true cuz they're not, you know, mining.

One Of Trump’s Biggest Hotels Just Sent Him A Devastating Message

in Canada, as the “Trump” sign atop the 65 story Trump International Hotel in Toronto was removed.

The rebranding is likely a business move as Trump’s brand was probably hurting demand, said Pankaj Aggarwal, a marketing professor at the University of Toronto-Scarborough, adding that the tower’s Canadian location adds to the case.

“The core value of Canada is somewhat different (than the U.S),” he said, pointing to Canadians’ choice of a Liberal government in the most recent federal election as an example of differing views on issues like immigration.

JFC Capital bought the struggling hotel and negotiated a buy-out with the Trump Organization in June to disassociate with the American President.

Carrier Just Played Trump For A Fool After He Bragged About A “Deal” To Save U.S Jobs

The deal, which gave the corporation $7 billion in federal tax dollars in exchange for keeping the jobs in the United States, turned out to be significantly trumped up.

Carrier had already announced plans to retain about 500 of those jobs, prompting Chuck Jones, president of United Steelworkers 1999, which represents the factory’s workers to say Trump “lied his ass off.”

Unfortunately, the story just got much worse for the men and women of Carrier. Today, despite Trump’s bluster and cavalier distribution of Americans’ tax dollars.

Layoffs have begun for hundreds of Indiana workers.

    “This week,

approximately 300 employees will leave Carrier

as part of the previously announced plan to relocate fan coil manufacturing production lines,” a statement from Carrier read.

Ultimately, Carrier says the layoffs “will impact approximately

600 Indianapolis jobs over the next several months.”

    That works out to
a grand total of zero jobs saved, meaning that in his first “presidential” act after the election, Trump gave hundreds of working families false hope for a short-term publicity stunt and stuck the American public with the $7 billion tab.

Trump’s Voter Fraud Chief Just Questioned The Legitimacy Of His Electoral Win

Kris Kobach, Secretary of State for Kansas, is spearheading the Commission. He appeared on MSNBC today to defend his formal witch hunt.

    While on air,

he made the ridiculous, patently dishonest comment that “we may never know” if Hillary Clinton won the popular vote.

MSNBC correspondent Katy Tur took him to task for it, and carried his idea to its logical conclusion:

If we can’t be sure the vote was valid, how do we know Trump won?

Kobach, backed into a corner, conceded that she could be right.

When Trump Fans Say He’s “Keeping His Promises,” Show Them This List

So after six months, has he delivered what he promised you?

    1. He told you he’d repeal Obamacare and replace it with something “beautiful.” You bought it.

But he didn’t repeal and he didn’t replace. (Just as well: His plan would have knocked at least 22 million off health insurance, including many of you.)

    2. He told you he’d cut your taxes. You bought it. But tax “reform” is stalled. And if it ever moves, the only ones whose taxes will be cut are the wealthy.

    3. He told you he’d invest $1 billion in our nation’ crumbling infrastructure.

You bought it. But his infrastructure plan, which was really a giveaway to rich investors, is also stalled.

    4. He said he’d clean the Washington swamp. You bought it.

But he’s brought into his administration more billionaires, CEOs, and Wall Street moguls than in any administration in history, to make laws that will enrich their businesses, along with former lobbyists, lawyers and consultants who are crafting new policies for the same industries they recently worked for.

    5. He said he’d use his business experience to whip the White House into shape. You bought it.

But he created the most chaotic, dysfunctional, back-stabbing White House in modern history, in which no one is in charge.

    6. He said he’d close “special interest loopholes that have been so good for Wall Street investors but unfair to American workers.“ You bought it.

But he picked a Wall Street financier Stephen Schwarzman to run his strategic and policy forum, who compares closing those loopholes to Hitler’s invasion of Poland.

    7. He told you he’d “bring down drug prices” by making deals with drug companies. You bought it.

But now the White House says that promise is “inoperative.”

    8. He said that on Day One he’d label China a “currency manipulator.” You bought it.

But then he met with China’s president and declared “China is not a currency manipulator.”

    9. He said he wouldn’t bomb Syria. You bought it.

    But then he bombed Syria.

    10. He called Barack Obama “the vacationer-in-Chief” and accused him of playing more rounds of golf than Tiger Woods. He promised to never be the kind of president who took cushy vacations on the taxpayer’s dime, not when there was so much important work to be done. You bought it.

But in his first 6 months he has spent more taxpayer money on vacations than Obama did in the first 3 years of his presidency. Not to mention all the money taxpayers are spending protecting his family, including his two sons who travel all over the world on Trump business.

    11. He said he’d force companies to keep jobs in America. You believed him.

But despite their promises, Carrier, Ford, GM, and the rest are shipping jobs to Mexico and China.

    12. He said he’d create coal jobs. You believe him.

He hasn’t. But here’s what he has done: Since 1965 a federal program called the

Appalachian Regional Commission has spent $23 billion helping communities in coal states fund job retraining, reclaim land, and provide desperately needed social services. A.R.C. helped cut poverty rates almost in half, double the percentage of high-school graduates, and reduce infant mortality by two-thirds. Trump’s first proposed budget eliminates A.R.C.

GOP senator reveals truth about Trump: ‘He scares no one in the Senate — not even the pages’

In an interview with the New York Times, one anonymous Republican senator claims that Trump has no clout in Congress and that no lawmaker is afraid of defying him on key pieces of legislation.

“A Republican senator, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he wanted to preserve his relationship with Mr. Trump, put it… bluntly,” the Times writes. “The president, he said, scares no one in the Senate, not even the pages.”

Rob Jesmer, the former executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee and a former aide to Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), went on the record to make a similar point that Trump is simply not feared by congressional Republicans.

“Right now, nobody’s afraid of Trump, and that’s a real problem,” he explained.

“Where is he on local talk radio? Where is the trip to Kansas to say, ‘Hey, [GOP Sen. Jerry Moran], we’re really close on this and could use your help’? It’s what he does well, getting out there and making the case. I don’t get why he hasn’t been more engaged.”

Among other things, the report notes that the

Trump team has floated potential primary challengers to rebellious senators such as Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Dean er (R-NV), but, so far, none of them have changed their behavior.

6 Wild Claims Trump Made In His Bizarre New York Times Interview

Trump would not have appointed Attorney General Jeff Sessions if he’d known he would recuse himself from the Russia probe.

Trump said the office of special counsel Robert Mueller is full of conflicts of interest.

The president claimed his second, previously undisclosed meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin lasted 15 minutes and “adoption” came up

Trump accused Comey, whom he abruptly fired in May, of using an unverified dossier of compromising material to keep his job.

Mueller would cross a “red line” if he looked into the Trump family’s finances beyond Russia

Trump complained about Rosenstein, describing him as a man Sessions “hardly knew” and alluding that he was annoyed the deputy attorney general was “from Baltimore.”

    Westeros on the Potomac

the kings and queens of mythical Westeros have a brazen disregard for anything that doesn’t provide them with greater wealth or power.

Indeed, the most prominent character of honor on the show, Ned Stark, was killed off in the first season.

For the average viewer, watching the self-indulgent and duplicitous behavior of those seeking to sit on the Iron Throne is initially shocking but, after it happens over and over again, soon seems normal.

The non-royals of the seven kingdoms — peasants, soldiers, tradesmen and the like — have little choice but to accept the machinations of those in power, some loyally, others ruefully.

current occupant of the White House ... seems to have adopted an approach to ethics well suited for the fantasy world.

It is nothing for such a person to spend his weekends at his private golf courses or resorts,

promoting events there and enriching his business.

Nor does it seem to strike anyone in the Trump administration as improper that foreign governments are booking events at his D.C. hotel in an obvious attempt to curry favor.

It’s become such an established pattern with President Donald Trump,

who has spent 21 of his first 26 weekends in office at his properties,

that it’s easy to forget what a break from tradition such behavior represents.

Every president since then has put his assets into a blind trust

Mr. Trump hasn’t done that. His adult children manage his properties, but he still profits from them.

The voters who elected him president aren’t even allowed to know exactly what Mr. Trump’s finances look like as he has refused to voluntarily share his income tax returns in another break with longstanding tradition.

As entertaining as “Game of Thrones” may be, it’s not an approach to governance that deserves to be put into practice.

Congress needs to set an ethical standard

that will be followed by administrations of all shapes and sizes, by Democrats and Republicans alike, by billionaire developers or community organizers.

Trump's biggest success: Proving the inadequacy of federal ethics laws

Given Trump’s unabashed flouting of the norms of transparency, it’s imperative that Congress remove its partisan blinders

    Trash doing SO AWESOME!

‘I won’t even turn on the TV any more’: Weary Trump supporters desperate to tune out bad news

The Guardian talked with several Trump supporters in Pennsylvania and found that many of them are refusing to watch the news.
“About two weeks ago, I stopped watching the news,” Wayne Bisher, a lifelong Democrat who backed Trump in 2016, told the publication.

“Because it was just like, it was too depressing. They’re still ing about the

Russia thing, which is still not going to amount to anything.

I feel so much better, for the last two weeks.”

“We got fake news, like Trump said, and I’m upset with the news,” 75-year-old Bruce Garis told the Guardian. “I won’t even turn on the television any more.”

When asked by the Guardian about assorted Trump scandals, many Trump supporters simply deflect the question to go back to attacking Hillary Clinton.

“No matter how it comes out, even if it comes out that there was some shady business going on there, I’d rather Trump in there than Clinton,” 43-year-old Jack Artley explained.

“So, whether he had to cheat or not to get in, I’m OK with that.”

“You really talk to people and – you know what drove a lot of people?” conservative activists Tom Carroll told the Guardian.

“Believe it or not, they won’t leave Trump for anything.

But it’s not because they love Trump, it’s because they love their families, they love their country, and

they were fearful of what was gonna happen if Hillary Clinton got elected president.”

How Deranged Are Trump Supporters? New Poll Shows That It's Worse Than You Ever Imagined

    • Only 45% of Trump voters believe Donald Trump Jr. had a meeting with Russians about information that might be harmful to Hillary Clinton...even though Trump Jr. admitted it. 32% say the meeting didn't happen and 24% say they're not sure.
    • 72% of Trump voters consider the Russia story overall to be 'fake news,' only 14% disagree.
    • Only 24% of Trump voters even want an investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, 64% are opposed to an investigation.
    • Only 26% of Trump voters admit that Russia wanted Trump to win the election, 44% claim Russia wanted Hillary Clinton to win, and 31% say they're not sure one way or the other.
    • Even if there was an investigation, and it found that the Trump campaign did collude with Russia to aid his campaign, 77% of his supporters think he should still stay in office to just 16% who believe he should resign.

    And

45% of Trump voters said they would still approve of him if he shot someone.

This is Jonestown-level dementia. When people talk about
"drinking the Kool-Aid," they can't get closer to that comparison than this.

Trump or various media organizations. Trump lost in every match up:

Voters say they trust NBC and ABC each more than him, 56/38.

They say they trust CBS more than him 56/39.

They say they trust the New York Times more than him 55/38.

Voters say they trust CNN more than him 54/39.

And they say they trust the Washington Post more than him 53/38.

Trump Just Announced His Long Summer Vacation

Poor baby Donnie. The president is exhausted, having worked hard for six months to ban Muslims from entering the United States, fail to pass legislation to strip healthcare from 22 million Americans, and attack the free press.

Zeke Miller, White House correspondent for Time, reports that

Trump will be at his Bedminster, NJ golf course from August 3rd to the 20th.

    A watchdog website estimates that

    Trump has already spent
$47,378,438 on his wasteful sixteen golfing trips.

He’s spent a total of eleven days at Bedminster and twenty-five at Mar-a-Lago.

Senator Richard Burr accuses Congressman Devin Nunes of making up 'the unmasking thing'

Devin Nunes has conducted himself with the all the dignity of Alex Jones in a Martian pizza parlor.

Claiming concern over “unmasking” of American citizens in secret communiques, Nunes has conducted a series of bizarre press conferences.

He’s skulked in the White House bushes.

He’s shuttled information from Trump, back to Trump,

while pretending as if he was informing Trump of something new.

He’s recused himself from the Russia investigation,

    un-recused himself, and

generally brought the House side of the investigation to a ugly, staggering halt

while declaring that no man can bring him to heel.

“I can do whatever I want, I’m the chairman of the committee,” Nunes said.

But even his fellow Republicans are no longer willing to pretend that Nunes’ claims are anything but nonsense.

Senate Intelligence Committee chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) on Friday accused his counterpart in the House, Rep. Devin

Nunes (R-CA), of creating a false narrative about Obama administration national security adviser Susan Rice.

With an assist from the White House, the House Intelligence chairman in March embarked on a one-man crusade to accuse Rice of improperly unmasking the iden ies of members of Trump’s campaign in intelligence reports.

Though President Donald Trump said he believed Rice’s actions broke the law,

bipartisan lawmakers who viewed the same classified reports from which Nunes drew his conclusions said they saw no evidence of wrongdoing.

People who have worked in the White House suggest that, on this matter, Nunes and the White House simply aren’t being credible. …

Graham said on the “Today” show on Tuesday that Nunes was bumbling his way though something of an “Inspector Clouseau investigation,”

a reference to the fantastically inept protagonist of the “Pink Panther” comedies.

Boutons, you don't have to like the president. In fact, it's your right not to dislike him. However, you do have to respect him.
