I think he needs to have a green light, like he did in the playoffs. He was a lot more aggressive to end the season and in the playoffs than he was to start the season... so I think a lot has to do with role. Needs to step up next season. No excuses. Bertans too by the way... though he's bombing away without hesitation, Spurs also need him to be solid. Looking forward to watch them and the young guards.

I was whining a lot about the Spurs standing pat before, but I am now kind of excited to see what these guys can do. Hopefully we find some keepers in this season's crop of youngsters (I use that word with some freedom for guys 24 and younger...)
    Right on.

Would love to see this guy break out next year. He's been improving in increments and now is the time to get into that solid rotation and make things happen.
    Hopefully...
I just keep thinking and hoping that he can come out and do some things for us that Draymond does for the warriors. Come set a high pick, get the ball at the top of the key and if he's wide open have a reliable 3 point shot. And if not drive and dish to an open man. And on the other end use his length and play physical defense. If he can do this then he can definitely be an important piece in our rotation.

He'll never have that ultra-alpha, outward personality of a Draymond who brings that onto the court.
He's SLOWMO and that's who he is. Better to not try to put him into a space that he won't ever try to endeavor.

Just be him with 50% more aggression on getting his. Take that shot. Do that drive. Lay it up. You got a better pass? Do it.
Just be decisive on O and don't be afraid to take it yourself.

On D? He's pretty good already. Just polish on that end and, of course, be more aggressive.

But he'll never get like Dray. Dray is wired the way he is and Kyle is wired differently.

i'm not disagreeing with you on this point or stating that KA is a potential alpha, but all i have is anecdotal evidence. for a while, the same was said of kawhi after his first two seasons. KA may ultimately become more compe ive on the court even if he doesn't become more demonstrative about it. but the biggest issue, as you pointed out, is his aggression. he can't shy away and think too much. he has to be more instinctive and show more confidence. act like he belongs in the pack, even if he isn't the alpha.

What you said was accurate but I don't get WHY you said it. I didn't say anything about personality. The stuff I described doesn't take an alpha at ude. I was talking strictly bball IQ stuff that he's capable of doing on the court. I'm not saying he has to lead like Draymond.

You mentioned the things that Draymond does. Well, the main thing that he does is bring his ultra-alpha at ude on the court and it affects the other 4 guys on the court along with himself. His physical D? That's also from his physical, alpha at ude.
I was just saying that Kyle doesn't have that in him and he shouldn't try to be that guy.
Kyle just needs to be 50% more aggressive, more decisive and he'll be just fine within the confines of his talent level on this team.

I hear what you are saying. It's all about the role not the style. But in order for Kyle to occupy that role, Pop would need to borrow a lot from Kerr's offense. That super-high pick is not really a part of Pop's offense. It would be interesting to see Kyle in that role - especially if he were a willing and effective pick-setter (unlike our other "bigs"). Who knows, if Patty and Forbes log a lot of minutes before Tony's return, and Pop tries to use them like Curry-lites, then Kyle might have a real opportunity to establish his role on the team.

Yeah that would be good for the team. And on defense just be strong and stay disciplined.

Yeah I agree and that is what I'm hoping for. I think it would be great.

That's it. He has it in him. He just needs to adjust a few things and I know it's hard to become more aggressive, on a dime, but he's got to do it this year.
Otherwise he will always be a fringe NBA player.

That's a lot of "ifs", but yeah, I'd like to see Kyle used in that way. But that all depends on Pop's being happy with setting those high picks and giving the green light to Mills and Forbes to bomb away - at least a little bit.

He could... If washed up Stephon can become a legend over there, he could be their Magic Johnson.

Spurs sign Matt Costello to a 2-way contract. He played in the summer league with the Twolves
