If I'm Cleveland I just tell Irving we're not trading you and that's that. He still has two more years on his contract and none of the offers I'm seeing look good for them.
Man that's gotta piss Isaiah off![]()

It´s against everyone interest that Irving doesn´t come here.
It would be a huge you for everyone if the Spurs ended up adding Irving + Gay.
If LMA goes then we are down to two bigs again. So the spurs need to trade multiple guys to free up a roster spot or two for some bigs or get a big back in return.
The roster imbalance could be scary if we swap a big for guards without freeing up a spot for another big man.
I am not sure that Cleveland would want to replace a ty defender like Irving with the worst defender in the league Isaiah Thomas.
Yep, no way they trade him to Boston.
If LMA is gonna get in shape for a contract year (which its looking like thankfully) you hold on to him until he ups his trade value, them you dump him to the highest bidder. If you dump him and Verde for Irving the defense becomes bottom-tier and you place even more burden on Kawhi (and further push him towards leaving).
Yep. And nobody holds a grudge like IT.
Lebron and the Cavs wouldn't trade with the Celtics, basically their main rival. Probably the same thing with the Heat.
You won't get a much better bid than Kyrie ing Irving, tbh.
You will if it also costs Green, Murray, and other assets of which the Spurs severely lack.
No matter how good Aldridge starts playing, getting Irving would mean trading Green and Murray. Aldridge doesn't fill any need for the Cavs. He just has to be on the deal to make the trade work in terms of salaries.
Let's say freezes and Aldridge comes to the season in shape and starts killing it. What potential trade could be done that would be better than getting Irving?
If it costs Green and Murray, then you keep LMA and try to sell him on forming a Big 3 with Kawhi/Irving. If it works out, great; if not, then you see what develops as the season progresses and if nothing presents itself just go into the playoffs and see what you can do. You still prolly end up with another WCF appearance and hopefully challenge the Dubs enough to convince LMA to stick around or bring in another star like Cousins to take his place (if Pop doesn't get in the way of that). Trading LMA/Green/Murray leaves the Spurs with only Kawhi and Kyrie in a stacked conference without any real upside outside maybe Bertans.
Aldridge by himself isn't that appealing not only due to his play BUT contract situation..
Let's use PHX for example... they won't just get involved in 3 way trade just to help out Spurs or Cavs..especially if they gotta take on LMA or give up Bledsoe straight up..you can maybe be entice them more by giving them a pick..but IMO you get PHX realllllly interested if you can take on the Chandler contract...
I think you can cross Miami off the list. Given the history with the decision / poaching LeBron, the Cavs won't deal with Miami unless they have no one else to work with. They'd probably trade Kyrie to the Warriors before sending him to South Beach.
The thing is that moving just Green and Murray doesn't work, salary wise, to make the trade work. If you get Irving, you have no choice but to move LA.
Yes, taking on Chandler might get PHX interested. Plus, the Spurs would definitely need a big to replace LMA - even though Chandler would not be among my top 25 choices.
IMHO, the best 3rd party facilitators would be Atlanta and Brooklyn. Former Spurs might be more willing to help than others.
What trades are you thinking of regarding Brooklyn or Atlanta?
Don't have to necessarily. Irving's contract is dirt cheap $18.8, they could afford to keep that core together next season.
Also Isiah Thomas is apparently extremely popular in Boston, not Hayward popularbut popular none the less.
Who becomes our starting 2 in that scenario?
He wasn't injured. When Davis and White both got minor hits/contact bruises they were pulled and still came back and played after one game of rest. Murray wasn't injured. He was in minutes restrictions from the very beginning and sat down mysteriously even since the Utah summer league. Moreover, Murray expressed a bit of frustration bc he wanted to play. It was something else... from the very beginning I thought he was involved in trade talks.
There was a stat earlier in the season that Irving was the worst P&R defender among PG's in the league. Considering how many P&Rs a starting PG has to defend and the fact that teams are going at him makes it even harder to hide him
Kyle Anderson?![]()
That's the question...
I could see Paul being that guy and Manu, Forbes, White can fill in off the bench..
I could also see Spurs moving Kawhi at the 2 and have Gay play the 3 and then you fill in the PF with maybe Anderson, Bertans, Joff..
Or you can maybe get a veteran for the min.
If I had to guess, in that situation, we'd go hard after Aaron Afflalo on a cheap deal.
