Kyle is not in a position of strength next season. He is a RFA and unless he is spectacular next season is going to be in a similar situation to Jamychal Green, JSimms etc. The market for RFA is difficult except for top tier talent. I could see him be gone next season if the Spurs hardball him, same as JSimms.
Kyle Anderson was a draft pick, JSimms was a DLeague scrub who had a good two week burst in the postseason. It would be a shot to the PATFO's ego to just let go of a draft pick that Pop thinks has so much potential and a future in the Association..

Do not compare this to Patty's deal. Patty could have gotten that deal from other teams, it is a tradeable contract down the road...this stuff is next level fail. I expected at worse 35m for 3 years.

    Two things could be happening.....

    1. There's more tricks up the sleeve...
    2. Worst offseason of PATFO..
    1. I think Lamarcus is gone, either through a trade, or through him opting out next offseason. The Spurs know what is going on with LMA while we can only speculate. Pau is probably in the know, agreed to stay no matter what and projects as the likely starter in that case.

    Or option number 2...

You can't trade FAs you just signed until December. And why would they want him with Tristan?

I'm shocked. I understand, in theory, the loyalty payments to those players that contributed to a championship while being underpaid, or those players that took less for a long period of time to create cap space, etc., but Gasol has done none of those things. I don't get it.

I'm hoping that he's being bundled with some of our younger, lower-paid talent in a trade scenario and his contract was agreed upon in advance to make the numbers work. Otherwise...I don't get it.

I don't complain a lot on this forum... this is a really bad value. I think we will get the most out of him but if we need bang for buck more re than ever.

It really could go either way. If he plays well, he could also be gone CoJo style. He gets an offer from some team that likes him and Spurs let him go. Of course if he does play well and Kyle ends up playing a lot of minutes for a reasonably good team next season, the Spurs will keep him I am guessing. Davis Bertans and Bryn Forbes are in the same situation. It really depends what kind of season they have and also, what kind of team Pop and RC are going to be fielding. Rudy Gay has been limping and looking awfully unbursty. It's possible Kyle does end up playing a lot more minutes next season.

Since he opted out, he cannot be traded until he middle of the season. Just wait for the meltdown when ST discovers the no trade clause

This is very easily the worst signing in Spurs history.

Only thing I can think of otherwise holy .

To qualify for a sign-and-trade, all of the following must be true:
    • The player must re-sign with his prior team -- a team cannot include another team's free agent in a sign-and-trade.
    • The player must finish the preceding season with that team (deals are no longer allowed that sign-and-trade players who are out of the league, such as the sign-and-trade that sent Keith Van Horn from Dallas to New Jersey as part of the Jason Kidd trade in 2008).
    • The player cannot be a restricted free agent who has signed an offer sheet with another team (see question number 42).
    • The team receiving the player cannot be above the "Apron" (see question number 20) at the conclusion of the trade1, 2. A team above the Apron can receive a player in a sign-and-trade if the trade reduces the team's payroll and the team finishes the trade below the Apron.
    • The team cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade if they have used the Taxpayer Mid-Level exception (see question number 25) that season.1
    • The trade must be completed prior to the first game of the regular season (sign-and-trades are not allowed once the season begins).
    • The player cannot be signed using the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level exception, the Taxpayer Mid-Level exception, or any exception that cannot be used to offer a three-year contract (see question number 25).

A sign-and-trade deal can be made with a free agent who has been renounced (see question number 39), as long as all the above criteria are met. Sign-and-trade contracts must be for at least three seasons (not including any option year) and no longer than four seasons3. The first year of the contract must be fully guaranteed, but the remaining seasons can be non-guaranteed.

I'm not really understanding this either. Pau fits today's game If he is willing to shoot, but the guy got cold feet in the playoffs. You really cant replace a great shooter with any other attribute, but he didnt didn't show up when it was needed.

I just cant make too much sense of this right now. See what the details are. May be he gets front loaded guaranteed money and then they release him later or something, since the rest of our money isn't going anywhere either way. Might as well pay him for opting out in case we made a run at a player.

Doesn't hurt us now, but the details on yhe other two years will be questionable for sure

Any chance the final year is inflated with a max year to use as a trade piece since it's only partially guaranteed?
