So just make everyone in the country pay nothing for health insurance. That way it won't cost anything.

    Problem solved.

Meh, just wait until you're really sick. Then get Obamacare. Pre-existing condition? No problemo.

Kind of like getting into an accident, then getting collision coverage.

I gotta say I love the fact that you're a government employee. You whine incessantly about the teat that feeds you Federal or state?
County - just started a month ago. Well, I'm not sure how well that teat feeds me as I had to restart at the bottom of the pay scale (so I earned more 22 years ago than I do now :-) but it will add years to my pension calculation. However, I am grateful for the job since I haven't had a "real" job for over 2 decades. Thank God for old friends who go to bat for me after so long and for legacy COBOL code that still needs to be maintained. And I'm not really doing it for the money but to keep my brain active (worried about memory loss from diabetes) and to be around people since ds is at school all day long. Believe me, they're getting their money's worth - not many mainframe programmers around and certainly not any willing to work for this pittance. But as I tell my kids - it's all about at ude.

how do you feel about affirmative action, and the fact that you only have this job because of it?

McCain, Trump, Obama. paying $20k/year for garbage insurance. ACA. Trumpcare. No small business's can afford good health insurance, Every self employed around here sends the spouse to a govt funded job for health insurance.

Everyone knows govt. pays well above private business's with rediculous benefits.

I disagree with affirmative action, and I don't have this job because of it. I have this job because I have 12 years experience on this same team and my 2 references are from supervisors who I worked with who are still on this team. It's nice to have friends in the right places and weird to see my initials/name in decades-old programs.

Republicans like you could have fixed that in the last seven years.

    You prefer idle ing.

Unfortunately, that is so true. Everyone here is sitting on a golden retirement - most collecting pension (calculated with overtime, sick and vacation included) and salary (for 5 years) in the DROP program. And people think single payer will be less expensive/more efficient than private - LOL when they have to pay the pensions for the massive number of people to administer it.

don't you claim to be a Jamaican gook woman? Sure, like they didn't think about how many boxes could be checked off by you being hired. But go ahead, tell yourself it's all because of how likeable you are

I'm not black. I'm Asian - which I don't think qualifies for affirmative action. If anything, there are a disproportionate number of Asians here (compared to % of population).

Let that er die of natural causes. It was a bad idea with zero GOP support.

Where they failed was not having a better alternative. You can insure all the uninsured and sick, but someone's tax bill must go up. You can tax the richest, but there's not enough of them.

There's no good alternative, tbh, unless you just raise taxes on the half of the country that pays taxes.

The idea of insuring all the uninsured and sick sounds great but nobody wants to pay that much - as seen in Vermont and Colorado.

How were Vermont and Colorado dealing with employers mandatory federal taxes for healthcare? Were they having to pay in addition to the proposed state programs?

It is but not sure of your age but pensions are like social security, anyone under the age of 35-45 knows damn well their not going to be paid. I feel like Tyler Durden (ironic since the whole ZeroHedge thing) but the only out is to blow it all up and start over. Single payer would help the ed become the un ed and the un ed become the ed. Even things out. People are dieing because of the current setup but everyone complains about the ones that will die.

Wait. You don't actually believe the generation that believes student loans should be forgiven will actually honor unpayable pensions, veteran benefits from BS "wars on freedom", and social security do you?

Here i thought you were the troll.

state-wide insurance pools in low-population states are tool small

although a smart high-population state, blue of course, like CA might work, but Brown, etc are owned by BigInsurance

I think they were expecting to be exempt from it (through a waiver) - probably along with the individual mandate penalties. But on the other side, CA's single payer bill expected the Medicaid funds from the Feds.

I'm in my mid-fifties so I'm pretty sure of my pension (surer than SS for sure) and Florida is in pretty good shape as far as their state retirement system. It's not gonna be much as I only have 12 years but anything is better than nothing.
