Demographics was of course determined in no small part by limits on non-European immigration, and the fact that we stopped importing Africans. That and they didn't really encourage black combat troops.

I could not show pictures of troops that were not "mostly white", because of... wait for it... racism.

Vy's point that the troops who fought Hitler being mostly white males was accurate, but a stupid point to make ultimately, because troops were mostly white because of racism that "baked in" that demographic, and completely glossed over the contributions of the millions of non-white, non-makes working behind the lines.

I can still, however, laud them, and if vy65 doesn't think that is ok for whatever reason, he can himself.

The most troubling thing Trump said yesterday wasn't that violence was coming from "many sides". The most troubling thing he said was that there were good people there on Friday night to innocently protest the removal of the statue. From all videos I've seen of the tiki torch march, I've seen no evidence that there was anyone there other than white nationalists, KKK, Nazis, etc. And, if there were any good, decent people there, they should if hauled ass at the first sign of a swastika or "blood and soil" or "Jews will not replace us" chant.

I stopped reading when the article claimed that Lee opposed slavery. He was a slaveowner, and a particularly brutal one who took pleasure in breaking up families:

As someone who has lived in VA all his life and went to school in VA, I had a history teacher in high school who tried to come at me with that nonsense when I pointed out that he had slaves, she responded that he was a kind to his slave which essentially made it ok. She didn't seem to understand why black people despise him and Stone Wall Jackson, Jeff Davis, and the confederacy, and why they oppose the dozens of monuments, schools, highways, etc named in their honor in the state.
