Can Congress legally, Cons utionally protect a special counsel or special prosecutor?

Or is that "protection" just a non-legal red line Congress would pass to try to dissuade the orange bag?

I think if Trump Saturday night massacres Mueller, et.al, Congress can make him an Independent Counsel by reinstating those provisions of the Ethics in Government Act.

Congress can also pass just about any law it pleases, with a sufficient majority.

At this point, the Congress has got to be looking at Trump's radioactive poll numbers and looking for the radiation suits to save their skins.

Top Senators Just Gave Trump Bad News About The Russia Dossier

Newsweek is reporting this afternoon that Glenn Simpson, the man whose firm oversaw the compilation of what came to be known as the“Pee-Tape Dossier,” may soon testify in public.

Simpson’s consultancy, Fusion GPS, contracted former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele to investigate Trump’s many Russian and Eastern European associates and past business deals. Fusion expected him to return with run of the mill opposition research. What Steele delivered was anything but run of the mill.

    Per Newsweek:

Steele’s dossier alleged that Trump colluded with Russian agents to undermine opponent Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.

It also included lurid claims that the Russian government possessed compromising material on Trump,

including a video of him getting Russian pros utes to urinate on a Moscow hotel room bed on which Barack and Mic e Obama once slept.

The dossier has cast a shadow over the entire Trump-Russia scandal.

U.S. intelligence agencies have known about the dossier since before President Trump took office, and

    it’s been reported that the

FBI has been using the dossier as a road map for its own investigation into his campaign’s possible collusion with Russia

    to influence the 2016 election.

Now there’s a push from all sides for Simpson’s testimony to be released to the public.

“Further details on what Simpson said have not been disclosed,” Newsweek is reporting, “but that may soon change.

Asked at a town hall in Iowa on Wednesday whether he would make Simpson’s testimony public, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), a Republican, said he would take a vote of the committee members but

he presumes it will be released.”

A GOP senator wrote a bill to protect Robert Mueller. Trump called him to try to kill it.

The president wants to keep his option to fire Mueller open

shortly after Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) introduced a bill that would let Mueller appeal his firing in court, Trump called up Tillis, signaled he was “unhappy” with the bill and said he didn’t want it to pass.

Tillis is a first-term senator who hasn’t been particularly known as a moderate or really for taking any high-profile stances at all.

So it was a bit surprising when, earlier this month, he co-wrote a bill with Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) to protect Mueller from Trump, and
went on television to tout it.

Justice Department regulations already state that the special counsel can only be fired for “good cause,” but
Tillis and Coons’s bill — the Special Counsel Integrity Act — would make that regulation the law of the land.

It would also state that the special counsel could only be fired by a Senate-confirmed official.

Perhaps most importantly, the bill would also let a special counsel appeal his firing in court.

If judges find that the firing was improper, the special counsel would be reinstated.

So Mueller ain't goin nowhere, unless the oligarchy SCOTUS votes 5-4 that Trash firing Mueller is OK by the oligarchy.

Absolutely. It's an insult to propose such legislation, just like that Russian Sanctions Bill was an insult. That Trump sold out and signed the damn thing was Trump's fault. Just because somebody places a noose around your neck doesn't mean you have to stand still for it.
