Why are folks still arguing that scrub Hanga?

Spurs front office just realized the dude sucks.
it's tantamount to the back up quarterback obsession that afflicts so many fans.

    he's gonna play until he's 50
If there was ever a guard that I thought was going to make it nearly that long, it was Stockton. He quit earlier than I even thought he would (probably cos Jazz were no longer contenders). For Manu, I've resigned myself to the idea that this is definitely his last season barring some amazing resurgence. It's too hard defensively for guards in today's NBA at plus 40.

No, AKA that I just took you off my ignore list like a month ago and would rather just agree to disagree than put you back on it so soon.

    Let's be clear:

This is meaningless. Players "replacing" others in the rotation implies that Pop basis his units off some objective set of conditions and not the players themselves. When you say something like "Anderson replaces Simmons", it sounds tone deaf. As if they weren't fighting for one spot all last year. There wasn't a Simmons "role" that Kyle is now slipping into, unless you think he's going to be in compe ion for minutes at the backup three with himself.

Manu's particular role is a factor of himself and his and Pop's relationship. If he were off the team, Pop would have to reconsider everything. He wouldn't just tell Kyle "You're now taking Manu's 18.7 mpg, but that means you'll be sitting a third of the season; Paul, you got Simmons' 1300 minutes unless Hanga beats you out." That's what you're implying, and it's just foolish. As for your desire to say top-eight over top-10, that difference amounted to one minute per game and 100 minutes total. That's it. It was a very insignificant difference that you tried to blow up into a real distinction.
Is that supposed to be a threat? I don't know why you take these disagreements so personally.

The biggest myth about professional sports, is that playing time is mostly based on merit. In reality, playing time is mostly predetermined. On this team, 8 (Aldridge, Leonard, Gasol, Green, Parker, Gay, Mills, Ginobili) are guaranteed rotation spots and each rotation spot generally plays within' a certain range of minutes. If Ginobili did not return, the backup SG was still getting 18-20 mpg.

The small difference in regular season minutes between Ginobili and Simmons/Dedmon because of the former's age/mileage and Pop's micro managing. Still, 8 marked a clear delineation between solidly in or out of the rotation, as evidenced in the playoffs, when Dedmon predictably fell out and Simmons was on the fringe before Leonard's injury.

I don't know why you love to convolute simple things. Simmons was generally the fourth wing and now Anderson will be. End of story.

    He's a delusional prick.

Just like with many CBA guys, they hide under their knowledge of the specifics.

The guy has never been right about player evaluations either so its' comical that he thinks his opinion is worth a pinch of Salt...

    Aldridge>kawhi
    Green>kawhi

I could go on and on. He's a notoriously terrible player evaluator.

He always completely ignores lockeroom Politics too. Makes you wonder if he's those kind of nerds that have never dribbled a basketball in their life.

I would tend to agree but my worry is that his play plummets drastically.
With the comparison being Robinson in 2003 and Duncan in 2016, both who still could've played if they wanted.

It could definitely happen. But he's earned the right to keep going until it does.

Yep. He has no confidence in his game if he's scared of losing minutes to a 40 year old Manu, and if he can't get court time over Manu, then that means he didn't play well enough. Simmons was mediocre throughout most of the season. He had 1 great game to start the season, then ed it all up by not taking open jumpshots and passing the ball off instead of attacking for the rest of it. He started playing well in the playoffs and looking more like that player after game 1 of the RS, though.

The Spurs used cap space last off-season. That included Manu's $6 Million--ish hold. The difference between Manu and no Manu was the difference between Gasol's slot and a max slot. While the Spurs likely didn't want to go for a guy like Whiteside (who may not have wanted to leave MIA in the first place), to say Manu's deal did not impact the cap is extremely wrong-headed and has been debunked multiple times.

And without getting into a debate about what Manu means from a marketing standpoint, I will just say that they don't seem all too concerned with their bottom dollar, given that they've pissed away more than $16 Million from 2016-2018 for guys who weren't or aren't likely won't be on the team.
If the Spurs renounce his cap hold, they cannot resign him using Bird rights. He was a player that, if he didn't retire, the Spurs wanted back. But, you know, that's not really Manu's fault, the Spurs certainly had every chance to to move in another direction and didn't do so.

One of whom was Duncan's $5mm which you'll pay 100% of the time. But probably need to add the Gasol buy out in year three to that.

Totally disagree on Manu last offseason. Had they had a max guy they were close to signing, they would have renounced Manu and moved on with it. They didn't have one (market as you and I remember was insane, and those deals are all ugly in retrospect). So they settled on Gasol and there was money left for Manu, so they gave him the Kobe contract. Except instead of 2 for $48mm under a lower cap it was 1 for $14 and now a 2 for $5.
