If he has a player option on that second year, then I'd say it's likely that they're planning on giving him the full amount. If it's not an option, I think it's more ambiguous, because Manu would not be able to renegotiate his salary if he wants to come back for another year in 2018.
Wouldn't he lose the second year if he has a player option and opts out. Not sure how that works. I'm sure at that price the second year is guaranteed.

I've been thinking since I heard about the deal this was just a way to pay him 5 million and stretch it out for two years for cap space reasons. Wouldn't that just be a fully guaranteed two year deal and then the team can waive him so he still gets paid. Seems like a player option would require him to play to get all the contract money. Can they still waive him if he has a player option? Again I'm sure the team wants to pay him 5 million either way. That's what they did with Tim, correct?

He could opt in and still retire like Tim did last year. What he can't do is opt out and get a new deal like he (also) did last year.

Yup, a closing lineup of prime:

    Manu
    Bowen
    Kawhi
    TD
    Admiral

    Damn.
Yuck. Parker >>> Bowen any day, especially with those teammates.

If that's the lineup, it makes sense.

Prime Manu and Kawhi need the ball, Dave and Tim need 3-point shooting. Both Manu and Kawhi can stretch the floor for Dave and Tim when needed, Bowen would live in the corner.

Tony is obviously the better player, but it's better floor balance with that group - not to mention defense.

Replacing Manu with Tony makes more sense to me. That's why Manu was one of the best 6th Man of all-time.

Excuse me? Enrique was great in his prime but that closing lineup has the better balance between offense and defense by FAR.

All in their primes at closing (offense/deffense):
    Stephen Curry - Manu
    Klay - Bowen :even
    KD - Kawhi :even
    Raymond/Iggy - TD
    Zaza/Raymond - Admiral

Not sure if it was done to save face for McGregor or betting. It was definitely premature, though. Dude was gassed, but crazier has happened with people that were actually knocked down - even more than once.

Just talked to TP briefly outside of Sushi Zushi at the Colonnade. I happened to going on my lunch break as he was leaving with one of his friends.

I had my Leonard shirt on underneath and thought about trollimg him when I walked up lol.

I kept my chef coat on though and just displayed the Spurs logo on the front.

Before I trotted up to them I took a few moments to see how he was moving.. and it's obvious he's still gimpy, but I didn't see any type of bracing so I reckon that's a good sign.

Lol nah man I worked a double so I had to come back, they were chilling at my station. You know what tho... I couldn't even be mad at TP... I called out Yo Tony! He turned around at first guard way up, but I kept a respectful distance and just let him know I was looking forward to the season etc etc.. I'm not sure if he thought I was gonna hate on him, but I let him know I thought how he played in the playoffs was gallant, and it was like I was talking to an akward teen girl that didn't realize she was pretty.
