The Police Who “Stood Down” In Charlottesville Just Got What They Deserve
After hundreds of photos and videos emerged on social media of Charlottesville police appearing to “stand down” amid violence from white supremacists in the infamous August 12th rally,
Nexus Caridades, a law group from Virginia, has filed a lawsuit against
the Charlottesville police,
the city of Charlottesville, and
the superintendent of the Virginia State Police.
The pro-bono legal group is citing injuries sustained by plaintiff Robert Sanchez Turner because of the police “standing down” and failing to intervene when white supremacists attacked counterprotestors at the rally.
“Mr. Turner was assaulted while police officers watched but failed to act to keep him safe or arrest those responsible for the attacks,” said Jen Little, the organization’s public relations director.”
“As reported by Mr. Turner and confirmed by footage from dozens of media cameras and hundreds of handheld cameras and phones, police stood down. This stand-down enabled neo-Nazis to inflict a modern-day race war in the streets of Charlottesville,” she added.
