It was revealing Manu said Spurs have been very careful with Rudy and he hadn't been cleared for in court basketball in order to preserve him but them at he's been cleared for training camp. Maybe the poster who said he will be brought along with minutes increasing gradually had a point.
That would imply that one of Anderson or Bertans may get a chance to start. It's much easier to control minutes if you bring a guy off the bench.

It's definitely going to be interesting bc the training camp is barely a week long now and the preseason is shorter.

Rudy wasn't able to participate in the open gym and thus chemistry building with him is going to be behind, so if he was going to be projected to play a good amount of bench minutes anyways, bringing him off the bench and scaling his minutes up gradually make sense. OTOH, if he was meant to start they might just have him do it as soon as he can so he can build chemistry.

I have thought like TD21 that maybe Pop still starts Gasol and just staggers his minutes with LMA. I have my doubts thinking they will play "small" entire games, although they now have sufficient players for that style. We shall see. It's exciting.

It goes without saying, I look forward to contract season Kyle and Davis too.

Anderson is the better player but he might need the ball in his hands too much to play alongside Kawhi and LMA. Bertans is the better off-ball player but I don't know if the starting lineup can accommodate two players with such similar roles (Bertans, Green).

You're right that either of them is a stopgap, ideally Gay will start at PF.

I think it really depends on who starts at PG. Patty starting means you'd lack play-making, and with him and Green, you really have enough shooters. Having Kyle in there takes some of the burden off Leonard to create, in a similar but not identical way to how starting Pau did. If Murray starts, then Bertans makes more sense. If White starts (again, I do think it's a possibility), then it's a toss-up with Anderson getting the edge due to him being a better defender and rebounder and a decent shooter when he actually lets it go.

You can never have too many three point shooters, tbh. Besides, Bertans can put the ball on the floor and pass a bit too. He isn't exactly like Green.

I think it is Kyle's position to lose going into training camp. Although Mills makes sense starting, I hope Murray learns to play with Manu and Gay. Because Murry isn't spotting up.

Donovan said that Melo will start at 4.
OKC Spurs and Pels were three of few teams going with two classic bigmen most games in last season. It feels like top-West teams will play small 46 of 48 minutes. That's why I'm intrigued by Pop lineups this new season. Will he opt for a conservative lineup with LMA-Pau in the first half of the season until he realizes Pau is unplayable against many fast-tempo teams? Will give Kyle-Davis more minutes while Gay continues his recovery?

Pop even came out and said he hasn't done a very good job of properly utilizing all of LMA's talent on offense, and I imagine adjustments will be made in that regard.
Spurs were #26 lowest pace NBA team last season.

Also, Kawhi had the lowest FGAs among Top 10 scorers, it's hard to have two players having enought touches to become dominant on offense with that low pace.

A little more of possessions per game wouldnt kill the Spurs. But with our old guys in key roles, Parker starting PG when he recovers, Pau only C on the team- 3rd best scorer last season, 40 y o Manu leading the bench ...IDK.

Why is Kawhi using a sleeve?
Is his old hand injury bothering him again? Or an elbow issue? Last time he wore a sleeve it was due to his hand injury in 2015.

It won't surprise me if Leonard would start looking for his shots even more this year and with the Addition of Rudy gay, you hope he responds positively instead of being soo moody.
I have my doubts...Pop said LMA concerns -about his offense touches ppg- were legit so I can see him getting more FGAs than the rest of the team to keep him happy until tradeline.
