    That's what jerseys would look like if Whataburger sponsored them.

    I'd be down with a special edition dreamcicle uni on Whataburger night. As long as it included free Whataburger when the Spurs win.

    It appears that both picks this year agreed to a development schedule with the Spurs prior to being drafted. This is an extension of the "guys who have gotten over themselves" strategy that the Spurs pursue. It is apparent going forward that unless they can move on a guy like KL this is the type of draft choice the Spurs will be taking for the foreseeable future. I think they see that most teams lack the proper patience in developing a player so the Spurs will be able to find a Danny Green or maybe, a Jimmer Ferdette, players that needed more time to develop and get cut loose precisely when they are poised to be their best.

    Going to be another Hanga.
    I don't see him in the Spurs.

    Again, Milutinov pretty much killed draft-and-stash in my opinion. Dude wants big money when he's not better than a replacement player right now. It's absurd.

    Did the Spurs even want to bring him over? If he was asking for big money, then you're right about that being absurd.

    Which way do you think the Spurs should have went in that draft?

    I have no idea if the Spurs wanted to bring him over. But he wanted to stay over so that he'd be unbound by the rookie scale. I don't remember if Bogdonovic's deal was explicitly stated as his motivation, but that's the impression I got.

    It's Spurs fault bottom line.
    1. They didn't have to draft him;
    2. If they drafted him, they didn't need to stash him;
    3. If they stashed him, it didn't need to be for the 3 seasons.
    4. It may not end up better than Livio or Hanga. Livio wasn't an NBA player but had to get paid and he didn't even give you garbage time play or a practice body for that money. Hangs wanted more than a minimum too.

    It's noteworthy Spurs haven't stashed after Milutinov so far.

    Drafting and stashing continues to be the stupidest strategy of all time. There's been countless first round euros that have never been heard from again because they were money s overseas. The process hardly works and ends careers. 3-4 years to develop in Europe, and then 2-3 years to let their games translate to the NBA... terrible.

    I don't understand what this extension changes because there's a buyout.... they don't need him this year with gasol, he may come next year.

    The issue is, if the Spurs do want him next year or whenever, even if he has a buyout, he may ask for a lot more money, and I'm pretty sure the Spurs won't want to give that to a guy that hasn't proved himself in the NBA. There might be a standoff due to him asking for a higher amount of money than the Spurs are willing to pay, and he may never come over because of it.

    Ice is correct. However, you could also consider that now the Spurs likely have to pay a larger buyout, likely by giving Nikola a signing bonus. Because that's money sort of coming out of his pocket, Milutinov will likely want more. So the Spurs then have to use even more of their MLE to bring the dude over. It's just a mess. They pissed away that pick trying to save like $400k in cap space, and they ended up not needing it (which was always obvious for those of us following the cap). Had they taken that pick seriously, it may have been a real contributor now.

    To put into perspective, five of the top 10 players from the 2015 NBA draft in terms of win-shares and WS/48, and in BPM (and four of the top 10 in the case of VORP) were picked after Nikola. That list doesn't even include Powell and Richardson, who both just got max (for them) extensions. That wasn't the best draft ever, but it was better than PATFO treated it as.

    which players? imma have to check that out.

    Edit:

    Larry Nance would have been nice or Josh Richardson. But let's give it time. There's no can't miss player after Milutinov imo Not like Jimmy Butler for example

    He's got a buyout next year and the following year and has potential to be one of the best bigs in Europe imo. He was coming out of his s in the Euroleague playoffs and with a couple years to establish himself he could be the next Splitter albeit healthy, hopefully.

    Much about nothing tbh I understand the gripe about getting him cheap, but letting him develop in a good situation is mutually beneficial. He can learn on somebody else's time and pocketbook. What we save now, he gets later. It'll be okay. And if he doesn't turn out then he'll be cheaper. He's not gonna get an astronomical number no matter how he plays. The big money days are over in this league. The money for expensive role players are gone. Maybe yall fear another Javtokas scenario but I don't see it.

    Edit: and by expensive role players i mean like when Turner, Crabbe, Bazemore etc got like 20 mill a year deals. Cause I know Patty and Ingles might be brought up or Pau lol
