The Spurs remained without the services of Leonard on Monday night, and Popovich said he's uncertain when exactly Leonard will make his 2017-18 debut while still recovering from the quad injury suffered last season.
"I don't even ask. Seriously. When [the medical staff tells] me he's ready then I'll know he's ready," said Popovich. "[Leonard] doesn't like to be bugged about it all the time. I don't want to hear about it all the time. [The media is] going to ask the question and I understand. When they tell me he's ready to go, then I'll look at him on the court and I'll decide if I agree. Then he and I can talk about it. But the first step is for them to tell me he is ready to go."

Very tempting idea. But I doubt that the league would comply without investigating.

She dumb to not give some kind of an idea of how serious it is. We all know he knows more than he will say. Not sure why people are so dumb about injuries.

So what does this mean? He's not likely to be back during this home stand at all?

No timetable I guess. Previously he had said maybe... now he's noncomittal and said he doesn't ask.

Doesn't Leonard have tendinosis in his quad tendon? If so that's a degenerative condition, akin to arthritis for the muscles. Hope it's not as worrisome as I fear. In Satan we trust, as always.

A starting lineup of Mills, Green, Anderson, Bertans, and Gasol should get the job done tbh

Not surprised, didn't he take a month off with some mild wrist pain back in December 2014 when their doctors failed to categorize what was exactly wrong with it?

This sound like something will linger with him for the rest of his career and he will probably have to learn how to play through pain in the future--something he hasn't been conditioned to do under Pop rest regime..

Also, I knew I better believe my own eyes instead of the few clueless local beat writers who were trying to downplay the awful sight of Kawhi gingerly boarding the plane stair like some 85-year-old man..

That exactly what Tim Grover and myself disagree with in regard to Pop's resting schemes. You can't learn to push yourself mentally when you are fatigued or have physical pain. The Spurs don't seem to allow players to learn to play through that. As long as it doesn't make the injury or injuries worse, you should learn to be able to play through some things and push yourself mentally.

You also don't build up any conditioning for playing big minutes in the playoffs if you're resting all the time in the regular season and also playing lower minutes. That doesn't set you up for success in the playoffs.

Maybe so. Maybe those signings were all part of the Great Tank of 2017-18 scheme.

The two worst starts in the Duncan era was the '99 season when the Spurs started off 6-8 and the '04 season when they started off 9-10. I hope the Spurs can stay afloat above .500 after 20 games.

Nah. He's 26. We'd be deprived of one of his peak years.

    It was a joke, tbh.
