Small Farmers Voted for Trump in 2016—Now They're Taking Him to Court

A new lawsuit aims to preserve an Obama-era protection from predatory tariffs.

Trump has staffed the USDA with the same incompetence that he’s staffed the rest of our government departments with. To add insult to injury, Trump’s administration made sure to do away with important Obama-era protections for small farmers.

Obama-era rules that had yet to take effect would have given smaller farmers more power to set the terms of their deals with massive meat companies,

empowering the growers to sue and better define abusive practices by processors and distributors under federal law.

Trump’s Agriculture Department killed two of the proposed rules, one of which would have taken effect in October.

Major agribusinesses like Cargill and Butterball fought the rules, saying they would lead to endless litigation between farmers and global food companies.

Trump’s deregulatory strike — lauded by big business

has consequences, even for the mom-and-pop turkey farmers who raise free-range, antibiotic-free turkeys that have seen increasing demand as Americans become more socially conscious about the production of their foods.

Now, as NPR reports, those small farmers are getting together and launching a lawsuit to protect themselves from extinction in the new Republican utopia.

Trump thought it was ‘low class’ for Pence to bring pets to VP residence

An adviser to President Trump reportedly said Trump was “embarrassed” by the Pence family’s desire to bring their pets with them to Washington, D.C.

The adviser told The Atlantic Trump told his secretary that he thought it was “low class” for the Pences to bring their pets to the Naval Observatory.

“He was embarrassed by it, he thought it was so low class,” the adviser said, according to the publication. “He thinks the Pences are yokels.”

Trump is the first president in 150 years to not have a pet in the White House, according to the New York Post.

Trump has reportedly mocked Pence throughout his presidency over the vice president's far-right views on abortion and LGBTQ rights.

The president once said that Pence “wants to hang” all gay people,

A Year Into the Trump Era, White House Staff Turnover Is “Off the Charts”

Staff departures have been a constant of Donald Trump’s first year in the White House.

Michael Flynn has put in a guilty plea.

    Steve Bannon,

    Reince Priebus, and

    Anthony Scaramucci

    were pushed out.

Sean er is off working on a book.

Omarosa Manigault, the former contestant on “The Apprentice” whom Trump installed in the Office of Public Liaison, was reportedly fired, on Tuesday. In September,

Politico reported that “a fast-growing number of White House staffers” were updating their résumés, making lunch dates with headhunters and prospective employers, and counting the days until 2018.

“There will be an exodus from this administration in January,” one Republican lobbyist told Politico.

It has already been confirmed that Dina Powell, the deputy national-security adviser, will leave the White House early next year, and that

Paul Winfree, the deputy director of the White House Domestic Policy Council and the director of budget policy, will head back to his old job at the Heritage Foundation after this week.

Gary Cohn, the director of the National Economic Council, has signalled that he will leave the Administration once the fate of the Republican tax bill is decided.

This degree of churn is “off the charts,” according to Kathryn Dunn Tenpas, a non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Ins ution, who has spent years tracking White House turnover rates. Next month, Tenpas will release her findings about Trump’s first year in office.

The data—some of which she shared with me this week—is striking: even if every one of Trump’s senior aides stays put until January 20th, the anniversary of his Inauguration,

his first-year turnover rate among senior staff—some sixty positions in total—will reach or exceed thirty-three per cent.

Trump: Protesters Who Were Beaten Up By My Supporters Violated My Rights First

President Donald Trump now claims, by way of his attorneys, that protesters at one of his 2016 campaign rallies violated his rights by protesting.

Those protesters were later allegedly battered by Trump supporters after Trump shrieked for their removal.

The protesters are currently suing Trump for incitement to riot.

In legal filings made this week, Trump’s lawyers say he couldn’t have violated the protesters’ rights by calling for his supporters to assault and remove them from the venue–because those protesters violated Trump’s rights first. One motion reads, in relevant part:

In this case, Plaintiffs interfered with the Trump Campaign’s freedom to ‘choose the content of (its) own message.

Thus, by interjecting this anti-Trump speech in the middle of a pro-Trump rally, they were obviously transforming the message that Mr. Trump and the Campaign wished the event to convey.

The motion was filed as part of a dismissal request made Trump’s legal team in response to a lawsuit brought by multiple protesters who were violently removed from a Trump campaign rally in Louisville, Kentucky in March 2016. At that campaign rally, then-candidate

Trump screamed: “Get ’em out of here!”

A federal judge allowed the protesters’ lawsuit to proceed earlier this year after Trump’s stable of attorneys unsuccessfully argued their client was protected from liability by the First Amendment.

In his April order allowing the suit, Judge David Hale wrote

“It is plausible that Trump’s direction to ‘get ’em out of here’ advocated the use of force.

    ‘Get ’em out of here’ is stated in the imperative;

it was an order, an instruction, a command.”

Now, after their initial failure at reigning in the protesters’ claims,

Trump’s attorneys are trying an even more novel tactic:

arguing that two perceived wrongs can, in this case, make a right.

The motion defends Trump’s incendiary order-instruction-command as necessary. It reads:

Mr. Trump had every right to call for the removal of the disruptors. Any contrary rule would destroy the right of political campaigns to express their messages at rallies without being sabotaged by intruders.

This argument relies on no known legal doctrine.

"Rough 'em up" something a less fraud like Trump would never attempt.

Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner are sued over financial disclosures

First daughter and presidential adviser Ivanka Trump and her husband and fellow White House adviser Jared Kushner were hit with a lawsuit Sunday alleging illegal omissions on their public financial disclosure forms.

Washington lawyer Jeffrey Lovitky contends that Trump and Kushner failed to identify the assets owned by 30 investment funds the couple had stakes in.

The complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Washington also claims the couple should have declared the value of and income they derived from two investment vehicles, but did not.

The suit notes that in a half dozen instances Kushner's report indicates that more detailed information is not being provided because a "pre-existing confidentiality agreement" precludes disclosure.

Kushner has updated his complex financial disclosure form several dozen times since it was filed in March.

Both he and Ivanka Trump were also fined for late filings.

In order to take his West Wing job, Kushner resigned from 266 posts related to his investments.

He has divested some of his holdings, but not given up most of them.
