Ex-Trump evangelical adviser says he knew he was wasting his time after two meetings

A.R. Bernard, the pastor of the Christian Cultural Center Megachurch in Brooklyn, New York, went on Samantha Bee’s TBS show this week to talk about why he walked away from President Donald Trump’s evangelical advisory board.

During the interview, Bee asked Bernard when he knew that he’d made a mistake in signing up as a Trump evangelical adviser.

    “Meeting two,” Bernard replied.

Bee then asked him what he thought he could possibly achieve by being a member of Trump’s evangelical advisory board.

“I thought that I would be a voice, a minority voice, at the table,” he said. “To help influence policy, ideas, initiatives.”

However, Bernard says he quickly realized that he would not have any such influence over any kind of administration policy.

Right. Republicans can gloat because them nearly causing a depression in 2007 made things easier for the Democrats. And they should get credit for driving the economy into the ground which they don't get enough of
If your side allowed this to happen in the favor of the republicans, you only have yourself to blame. You had the WH for the last 8 years.

The Rogue Cries Rogue: Trump’s New National Security Policy

    Trump said:

We’re Dictator-in-Perpetuity on planet Earth, and everyone else must adopt our rules and values.

Those who don’t — notably China and Russia –are revisionists working against us. We’ll deal with them. Ultimately, might makes right.

Who gave you the divine right to rule the world, and on a perpetual basis?

Why can’t you work with those with different ideas about political, economic and social organization, so as to create a better world for your people and theirs?

Why should might make right — especially in the 21st century?

    And why zero-sum?

Why not give win-win a chance?

All the offenses he accused China, Russia and other parties of —

military expansion, seeking international dominance, undermining others’ interests, bullying, etc. —

are most flagrantly committed in today’s world by none other than the USA.

The Washington hardliners who wrote Trump’s speech have signaled unequivocally their rejection of the best hope for sustained peace and prosperity in the 21st century:

a sharing of power by the Empire with other rising nations and cooperation with them to build a better world.

    the international push-back has begun

Hua Chunying of the Chinese Foreign Ministry

advised the US to “abandon its Cold War mentality and zero-sum game concept,”

otherwise Washington “would only harm itself as well as others.”

    She went on:

“China will resolutely safeguard its sovereignty, security and right to develop.

No one should have the fantasy of expecting China to swallow the bitter fruit of harming its own interests.”

More direct was Beijing’s Global Times, widely read among Chinese intelligentsia.

“This report is a manifestation of the Trump administration’s tough posture,

which counts on US power instead of international rules,”

    editorialized the paper.

“It showcases Washington’s indisputable insistence on its global hegemony.

Neither Beijing nor Moscow will buy it.”

Trash and the Repugs abuse, "alienate" plenty of human rights in USA

Repugs also abuse human rights by invading, bombing, occupying other countries for profit.

The world polls that the greatest threat to world peace is USA.

    Awesome now do 2007-2010
And compare it to what? The transition period of a bear to bull isn't comparable to the last 4 years...

Although I guess I can't assume you'd understand that when you think 30% of 7k is more than 25% of 19k

    or just that 30% > 25%

thats how you'd calculate return on investment, at least

Dow rises 5,000 points in a year for the first time ever

    • This is the biggest annual-points gain for the Dow in its history.
    • A 140-point rally Monday sent it to an all-time high and pushed it to the 5,000-point milestone.
    • "It's getting a bit extended, but I think it has more room to run," says MKM Partners' Jonathan Krinsky.

It's a bit more complicated than simple ROI when you inherit the ass-end of a bear market that over saw a -57% change, 21. Unlike a standard bull to bull comparison, you have to consider that the market is hyper-optimistic when it begins to see recovery. That's why '13-'15 makes a better comparison for '16-'17

i know its more complicated than that, but that was just responding to your asinine comment that the percentages are somehow less relevant than the gross figures

easier to accelerate an economy moving in the right direction than to turn the ing tide.

Sarah Silverman: 'Patriotism Is Perverted' And Trump Is 'Childish'

Though comedian Sarah Silverman says that she's actually experienced a change of heart about Trump voters, her recent attempt to elevate the conversation about the meaning of the word "patriotism" ended up slipping back into the standard conservative-blaming, Trump-bashing that she's made a staple since he was elected.

"Patriotism is perverted," said Silverman in a recent interview with Vice about her Hulu series "I Love You, America," in which she talks to people from various political views. The reason "patriotism" has become distorted, she suggested, is because of the Right, who have "perverted" the meaning of so many important words, including feminism and liberal.

"The right has perverted the meaning of being liberal, or being feminist. Even 'social justice warrior' is an insult," Silverman told Vice. "We pervert language so much. Patriotism has always been a bit owned by the right."

At the heart of the distortion of the term, she said, is the false notion that we are more divided than we truly are.

"The last delusion on all of our parts is that there are two parties, and they’re made up of two very different kinds of people. I have to think that oligarchs and billionaire wealth addicts aside, for the most part, people are more alike than we think. We’re just getting our news from outlets that are telling us different types of stories," said Silverman.

"Patriotism is perverted," she continued. "We’re not on the same page of what it means. To me, being patriotic is loving your country—being a citizen, having a voice, being e pluribus unum. How perverted it is to go from 'We are one' to 'We are number one,' which is such a childish idea."

The comedian took the opportunity of the word childish to work in some criticism of her least favorite politician.

"There’s a difference between childlike and childish. The president is childish," she said. "He was stunted around eight years old––maybe something traumatic happened––but he stopped growing emotionally. And yet, he got all the way to the presidency. There are a lot of pathologies that are not healthy but can bring great success, if that’s how you measure success. The deepest people look at the world with wide-open eyes—which is childlike, not childish."

Later in the interview, Silverman offered some thoughts on religion and managed to make some slightly more even-handed points.

"Like patriotism, religion can be sometimes used as a weapon, or to support someone’s own narrative or fears and prejudices," she said. "These Christian-fringe, Roy Moore, do-what-I-say- not-what-I-do people––they’re not very Jesus-like. I see them as fringe the way I see ISIS as fringe. But when we look at the fringe as a whole, it’s dangerous. That’s why there’s the Muslim ban. They’re taking a tiny fraction of a people that’s loud and making it the entire people. That’s dangerous. The left often does that with the religious right. The religious right is not all of religion. The notion of religious freedom used to be this beautiful notion that all religions can come here and practice. What it’s become is legal phobia—or racism."

Silverman has been trying to be more "open" as of late, and that includes even being open to conservatives. The comedian recently said that after speaking with Trump voters across the country, she was surprised to find that she "fell in love" with them.

"When you're one-on-one with someone who doesn't agree with you, or whose ideology is different than yours, when you’re face to face, your porcupine needles go down," Silverman told a Vulture Festival crowd in November. "The surprise was I fell in love with them. I had a great time with them and I felt comfortable."

Insults aside, 21, my statement is quite valid. Market recovery is based on optimism. Sustained growth is based on a variety of things.
