Why are people here so against it, do you think the US needs these other nations to survive? If we're financially supporting them, that seems to dispel that notion. What does the UN do for the US?

President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to place the U.S. embassy there is proving to be a dividing line for the rest of the world.
The U.N. overwhelminglyl voted to ask the White House to withdraw its recognition of Jerusalem.
Trump, on the other hand, has noted his power to withdraw aid from every country that voted against his decision:

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) tweeted out after the historic vote:
He noted the U.N. has long been a “forum for anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism,” and seemed to support Trump's assertion of the U.S.'s status as a “donor” to the group.
As U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley said prior to the vote, the U.S. takes opposition to its right to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel very seriously, and the administration is paying attention to who stands against it:
