I’d agree with you if I wasn’t too busy trying to buy Chesterfields in a bodega. If Star Wars would ing cast Chloe Sevigny and Greta Gerwig I might go see it ugh.

Luke wasn't in a fight to the death, he was sitting and hiding from Darth Vader, literally saying "I won't fight you" until Vader mentions Leia and suddenly he goes insane and nearly kills him. Yeah that sounds like a completely different person than the guy who reads his apprentice's mind, seeings horrible dark things, and thinks to himself "maybe I should take care of this before it goes badly again....nah I better not"

Luke wasn't involved in a life or death fight with a sleeping Ben Solo.

This movie shat all over the character of Luke Skywalker in the name of "subverting expectations". Boy, I sure am glad we got a murderous Luke who dies for no reason after doing nothing throughout the entire film! That was much better than having Luke be Rey's mentor.
I was thinking wow, they killed off Luke like that old turtle from KungFu Panda and he's really not that old.

I mean Han and Obi Wan were up there.

The good...Rey was much better in this one. I was able to better connect to her as a heroine. She felt much more natural. Poe was great. Though not overly deep, his character is vintage Star Wars and I think his spirit embodies what the franchise is about.

The bad. Finn and Rose...has there ever been a more useless side story? Or more useless characters? Del Toro in his "I'm here to pick up the check" code breaker role acted circles around both of them. In fact, Del Toro could have just stood there and stared and done that. They're horrible and unnecessary. I found myself excited that Finn might die only to be disappointed by him surviving. This film also desperately needs a good villain. Vader's shadow is long on Kylo. I don't expect him to meet that benchmark, but right now he's not close. Maybe in the finale.

This film, like Blade Runner, wasted a lot of time. It could have easily been trimmed down and been better. At least Blade Runner had great world building. The hologram twist with Luke was meh. I was like, "oh..that's why his beard is brown and his hair is short. I thought he just cleaned up for the occasion." I get what they did with Luke and why they did it but I still kind of hated it went that way. If you are going to do that, at least give us a solid light saber fight. You exhausted every other Star Wars formula there is, so why not?

Speaking of that, I talked to my girlfriend after I watched this and she basically said what I was thinking...that Star Wars is really starting to feel like they are squeezing a tired formula. I told someone recently that Marvel sort of does the same thing, but the acting is so good and the characters are so well developed that they can get away with it. You have a couple of strong characters, a villain I don't care about and side stories that are dumb and forgettable. If you are going milk a formula, at least inject some real life into it.

I wouldn't say I'm anticipating the finale, but I'll watch it and expect to be surprised. This film doesn't deserve some of the it got from the audience, but it's still deeply flawed and not what the critics claim it is...not even close.

Yeah, they weren't in a fight to the death. Luke and his dad were just playing hide and seek.
Luke was also just playing "Hide the Lightsaber" with his nephew. He didn't actually want to kill him.

blaming me for not gobbling up Disney's horse .

"The movie is good, bro. Ignore the gigantic plot holes, logical inconsistencies, tonal issues, and ty characterizations! It's got X-Wings!"
"We won't win by sacrificing ourselves, even though Holdo sacrificed herself 10 minutes earlier and saved everybody!"
"Rey's not a Mary Sue, even though she is amazing at EVERYTHING despite no training at all!"
    Super Leia
Poe opening a door into outer space and not getting sucked out
using FTL as a weapon even though nobody in the movies has ever thought of doing that before
    absolutely pointless casino subplot
Phasma existing only to sell toys
BB-8 existing solely as a plot device

This movie was ing cringeworthy at times.

I can’t stand these new Star Wars movies that have overpowered characters, plot holes, pointless subplots, and characters who only exist to sell toys! I like the old Star Wars movies with overpowered characters, plot holes, pointless subplots, and characters who only exist to sell toys! Disney for ruining Star Wars!

I can't claim that Disney ruined Star Wars when the prequels exist. The original movies also didn't have a main character who succeeded at EVERYTHING all the time. It's hard to care about the Rey vs Ren dynamic when Rey already kicked Ren's ass in the very first movie. It's also hard to care about anything that happens when the bad guys win in the end. The First Order is dominant... for some reason. The destruction of Starkiller Base has no effect on them... for some reason. The Resistance is on its last leg even though they just had a gigantic victory not even a week ago... for some reason.

but just turn off your brain, bro!

No, dummy, bad guys winning is not bad in and of itself. The problem is that nothing matters in either of these movies. The good guys won in The Force Awakens, but the bad guys are not affected in anyway. That makes the bad guys winning in The Last Jedi irrelevant, because even if the good guys won, it wouldn't matter. Why is The First Order in charge? What's the appeal? Why is The Resistance a resistance? Why aren't the peoples of the universe uniting to stop The First Order? How does the destruction of Starkiller Base have NO effect on the plot?

If it doesn't matter who wins or loses because one side always wins for the sake of drama, why should the audience care?

Rey failing at turning Kylo has nothing to do with her character, you silly goose. Kylo's motivations are incomprehensible.

thinking Luke's sacrifice was anything but a huge plot contrivance
Poe not having the common sense to try to find a way out of the bunker
chubby cheeks Rose crashing into Finn, dooming everybody

why doesn’t anyone stand up to the First Order?

Because they’re making money exploiting this conflict. Why would they want to shut down their cash cow? Oh, suddenly the casino subplot has some (admittedly very small) purpose.

And there was this entire scene in TFA where planets willing to stand up to the First Order all got wiped out by Starkiller Base, but yeah great point.

Why aren’t the bad guys affected when they lose? Shouldn’t losing Starkiller Base have some effect?

Yeah because the Empire was so devastated at losing the Death Star that they had to really regroup, strategize, and then just ing build another one. ting on the legacy of the original trilogy But again, great point.

    one side always wins

you yourself just posted that the good guys win in TFA, the bad guys win in TLJ. But yeah, great point.

4 planets being destroyed in the universe equals the entirety of the Resistance
justifying The First Order suffering no consequences from Starkiller Base being destroyed, even though The Last Jedi takes place moments after The Force Awakens
thinking that one planet making a profit over the war somehow justifies most of the galaxy being on The First Order's side

The good guys didn't win in The Force Awakens, because the ending had no effect whatsoever on the plot. When the bad guys are inexplicably the majority like they are in these new movies, then nothing matters. When somebody is able to start a mutiny and suffer no consequences, then nothing matters.

I also never complained about you calling me a got; I pointed out how ridiculous it was for you to criticize me for not being cerebral, even though your sole response multiple times was to call me a got. Do you not see the hypocrisy in that?

Who said only one planet is profiting? Just because rich elitists gather at The Hamptons, that means they’re all from there? Clearly the rich weapons dealers from around the galaxy travel to that planet for leisure.

Listen, if you need a movie to breakdown and spoonfeed you expository dialogue for every last bit of plot minutiae at regular intervals, all because you couldn’t infer basic , then we’re done. Christopher Nolan movies exist for a reason.

taking my posts out of context
comparing this alien s milking movie to any Christopher Nolan movie, especially when Dunkirk came out this year and shat all over The Last Jedi

Stop being a pissy-eyed got, mono. This movie doesn't stand up to the least bit of scrutiny. Stop crying because I criticized it. Do you really need me to explain why the ending of The Force Awakens doesn't matter, or are you content with being obtuse?

Also, it was established that the weapons dealers sold arms to both sides, so your explanation for why The First Order is in charge doesn't hold any weight.
