A growing baby elephant that's going to grow and grow all spring and summer..... here's the thread to discuss it.

The NFC West is set to be stacked next year, with a favorable schedule against the NFC North and AFC West.

Bruce Arians is retiring, we don't know what's going to happen with QB/Fitzgerald, so I think we can safely put Arizona at the bottom next year.

Seattle will be back. The injuries this year were absurd. If they draft an OG and edge rusher high (to replace Bennett) they should be back to near prime form. Also, they need to switch positions with Ifedi to guard and Pocic to right tackle. Ifedi is strong but not quick, Pocic is quick but not good against DTs bull rushing... it's an obvious move. Plus, Pocic was a quality tackle in college. LOB and Chris Carson will be back. That OL has talent now, no more excuses. They get that line at least mid-quality or better and they're back to contending for it all.

Rams... will they be back? We've seen a lot of upstart young teams like this, particularly with very young QBs and HCs, flourish in one season and then fold in the next. I don't think they're going to fold tremendously, but a slight step back from this year's torrid pace could be realistic. They're going to lose Sammy Watkins. How much does Whitworth have left? Goff was atrocious without him. Gurley is a beast. That defensive front 7 has some quality chess pieces. Secondary could be an issue. I think they still contend for a wild card and perhaps put up a fight for the division.

49ers are the hottest team in the NFL (by far), but they're not in the playoffs. We don't see that too often, do we? Jimmy Garoppolo might become considered a top 5 quarterback very, very soon, perhaps as soon as next year. I don't think they're bringing back Hyde, he's just alright, not great and not a pile pusher. The 49ers have a ton of money to spend, and they should look into buying an elite corner or even a pass rusher if they can. Their safeties and DTs are good, they just need better man coverage guys and a quicker pass rush. They're going to get a high pick in the draft... use it on Barkley? A pass rusher? A corner? Those are the positions of need if I'm Kyle Shanahan. They could also look to draft an elite ILB high to replace Bowman and attempt to rebuild the early 2010s 49er front 7s that dominated games, with Foster on board. Which way will they go? They still have a lot of money and pretty good draft capital.

10-6, getting a WC, and upsetting some team on the road before losing in the divisional round. Niners definitely keep Carlos Hyde; they're high on him and he enjoys playing for them. Gonna be interesting to see who they sign in FA. The draft selection will go a long way to deciding how the team decides to fill their holes.

How much would they be willing to pay Hyde though? He's not a scatback nor a powerback. Not super fast or a great receiver, that's Brieda.

If I'm a Niners fan, I don't want them to draft Barkley.

Go for a CB, quick edge rusher, or LB... don't overdraft anyone, but draft BPA in these positions. They're set at safety with Reid, Tartt, Colbert, and Ward. They need a better CB to replace Dontae Johnson as a starter. Preferably someone even better than Witherspoon who isn't bad. Maybe Johnson can play nickel. They have a very good strongside DE in Thomas and very good DTs, but they need a weakside pass rusher... the ten plus sack guy, the guy Aldon Smith was before he picked drugs over football. They need another starting linebacker to pair with the very-good Foster, they're too thin there.

On offense, they definitely need weapons, but they shouldn't spend a premium pick there. You can get good WRs and RBs in mid and later rounds, as well as free agency. Look at the 2017 Rams and Eagles, they used free agency to build their receiving corps and the draft to build their defense and it really has paid off.

Obviously how we finished the season had us Niners fans a bit perplexted. Cool we are winning, YIPPEEE Jimmy G but.......all we really did was move down in the draft.

With a few breaks, min injury, I can see....9/10 wins and a shot at a WC.

Would need some time to disect things before talking specific draft picks.

The top of the draft is mostly iffy QBs that may or may not pan out (you don't need one) and some idiot is going to spend a high pick on Barkley, who isn't better than say, Fournette and could be worse.

It's a good year to be picking 10-22 or so in the first round. Or, trade down if you like someone better a little lower on the boards.

Why don't you wear a 49ers skin? I didn't even remember seeing you with one in the last heyday (Harbaugh era).

We have no idea how anyone will do going from NCAA to NFL I learned that a long time ago. That instant $$$$$$ can change people. So many small college players show up that were....who? So many high picks....bust!

BUT.....ya always ALWAYS put all you can into your lines, it all starts there (other than QB). I don't know enought about our real situation there right now.

I do wear a Niner cap, ha!

I meant a 49ers skin on this message board. Click your username at the top of the screen... Control Panel... General Settings tab on the left... scroll down... Favorite NFL Team... drop down menu, find the 49ers, then hit the OK/Apply Settings button at the bottom.

I think your OL is still pretty good, especially at the tackles. Interior one isn't too bad. You need a big time pass rusher, the finisher, the guy who gets the QB down and your defense off the field. You could also do with a shutdown corner and another dynamic ILB.

Definitely don't draft a receiver or RB too high.

Been a Niner fan so long, seen the good the bad and the ugly. Yep, could dig some good again.

I'm always leary of draft picks, ya just never know. , Jerry Rice...MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE, and just a 4.6 40. Our first 1000 yard rusher...Compton JC.

Would like to see us grab some proven free agents, there ya know what ya are getting. And I don't know the ages of our lines, that is a biggie, that is why I can't talk needs right now.

Things do appear to be looking up, it's about time.

Eagles are built for long term success. Packers go as far as Rodgers body allows. Vikings have another year or two probably, but no long term QB. Cowboys will always be inconsistent. Rams are likely to regress next season. Seattle’s defense is on it’s last legs. Who knows what the is happening in the South.

It’s not ridiculous to suggest that SF is already the 2nd best team in the NFC going forward.

depends if Jimmy G is as good as we all think. they're going to get him some actual weapons to work with, and given how well he played with a bunch of scrubs this year, that's a scary thought

    Love talking my Niners.

    Imagine this defensive backfield.

    Deion Sanders
    Jim Johnson
    Ronnie Lott
    Rod Woodson

    All in the HOF.

    Imagine.....

    Jerry Rice
    Randy Moss
    Terrell Owens

    more HOFers (will be)

Frank Gore the fifth leading rusher ever. Joe Perry, Hugh McElhinny, John Henry Johnson, HOFers. Now add...Roger Craig.

    What team compares to...

Y.A. tle, Joe Montana, Steve Young (three in the HOF) Frankie Albert, John Brodie, Jeff Garcia, and now maybe Jimmy G.

    Charles Haley
    Dave Wilcox
    Bob St. Clair
    Leo Nomellini
    Fred Dean

All in the HOF. That's 18 Niners in the HOF*** (I get some were better other places)

*** will ignore Bob Hayes and 0.J.Simpson, they did...0.

    NFC is stacked, tbh...

    - Even if Brees regresses slightly, there is no progress killer like Peterson to start their year slow, and their defense should be even better
    - Panthers won't regress
    - Falcons could regress
    - Vikings chould regress
    - Lions should regress
    - Packers will be back
    - Rams could regress
    - Seahawks will be back... they have real OL talent, just need to use it & get the D healthy
    - Cowboys will be back
    - Eagles are excellent on both sides when healthy
    - 49ers have Jimmy

    AFC..... lol.

ans and Bills aren't playoff teams next year. No good QBs, no chance in . ans could be the worst team in the AFC South next year with Watson and (perhaps) Luck returning.
    Chargers could be better
    Raiders... who knows
    Chiefs should regress
    Texans should be back
Cheatriots/Steelers will be there yet again at the top... unless Brady's bio clock finally goes or the Steelers don't keep Bell
Jags won't progress without a better QB
Dolphins, Jets, Broncos, Bengals will be mired near the bottom
    Ravens won't be better
    Browns are still the Drowns

Let's not forget, Jimmy never got a chance to play with Pierre Garçon, one of the best route runners and sure handed receivers in the league... who went down early... he's always been like a better Anquan Boldin.

They'll also likely get a younger, faster option to pair with him. Goodwin and Taylor are pretty nice slot receivers to have. They could use a better tight end, too, but it's not vital.

That's what I'm thinking, too. 11-5 and a Wild Card, lose in second round, go 13-3 the next year and win the SB.

I wear a Niner ball cap and always have. One gets a little dirty I buy another one. Never had so many....."you guys are looking good"...."next season"...."about time, huh". So are all us Niner fans who stayed with them going to be rewarded? Sure looking that way, but....only time will tell.

Fell a lot better walking around with SF shining, than I did a year ago. What a difference a QB makes.
