One interesting thing that jumped out at me reading the intelligence assessment was that when it looked like Trump was going to lose, Russian efforts were towards questioning the legitimacy of the election and the vote itself. Trump mirrored that.
Then he won, and all that questioning about the vote vanished on the Russian side, and Trump whined about "millions of votes" being cast fraudulently, . Something that would be as impossible to hide as a faked moon landing. Trumps never questioned the fact that he won, because his fragile ego couldn't accept that he lost the popular vote.
I don't think Trump actually thought he was going to win. I think the book paints, overall, a fairly accurate picture, even if individual is wrong, because there are a lot of other credible, corroborating accounts that mirror that narrative.
