In the context that Flynn had a lifetime of honorable service to his country a d had ed up by not telling the FBI he had had a couple of conversations with a Russian and had already been publicly humiliated by being fired by the White House for lying to them too about it. And language is important. "I hope" is a of a long way from " I order you to". Good luck getting an obstruction conviction on that.

2) Comey does not let the investigation go.

3) Trump fires Comey.

4) Investigation results in felony conviction anyway.

5) Trump orders the firing of Mueller, who is investigating the firing of Comey as a possible obstruction of justice.

The collusion issue is a red herring. It's about whether Trump has ed with ("obstructed") the process of investigation, not the underlying issue being investigated.
