The Spurs also seem quiet (other than the Kawhi Leonard white noise—and Kawhi isn’t being traded). If the Spurs do take action, expect any moves to be for a big, or to be focused on the future. They might be near the top of the Western Conference, but the team is old. Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Pau Gasol have only so many years left. LaMarcus Aldridge will likely begin to decline as the Spurs enter the new decade. Danny Green can become an unrestricted free agent this summer and would be a coveted 3-and-D wing. Davis Bertans, Kyle Anderson, and Bryn Forbes will all be restricted free agents looking to get paid. The Spurs are still
the Spurs, but one wrong turn and they’re tumbling down the cliff.

not really worried about an LMA decline. he's got 2 years left on his deal and his style of play won't fall off a cliff. only real question is what his next contract looks like. does look like trading one of bertans/anderson would make sense, but that's a really tough call.

Author must have meant one MORE wrong move and the Spurs will tumbling down a cliff. I mean m it can't get much worse than the situation there in.... Leonards impending free agency, LMA's extension, Paddy's contract, Pau's contract, Parker's decline, Ginobili's never ending comebacks, Rudy Gay's health concerns and Parker, Kyle and Green's upcoming loyalty contracts.

Think Parker's move to the bench may have tipped the Spurs hand but i'd be surprised if they made any big moves.

Green makes the most sense to be moved. Cleveland would absolutely be interested and the return should be worthwhile (i.e. Cavs 2018 1st, Zizic, and Frye)

Spurs could then try and package their two late firsts in the off season for a middling first and try to get a future starting caliber prospect in the draft.

If all those things didn't push the Spurs over a cliff why would the next "mistake" do It? The Mills contract and maybe Gay's health are the only mistakes on that list.

I can’t believe people think the Aldridge extension was a mistake. He’s playing at an All NBA level and shows no signs of slowing down while shouldering a huge piece of the load.

All for $15 million in the last year of the deal than Blake is going to make in the last year of his deal. Or $6 million less than Paul Millsap’s or Al Horford’s peak year. Or $4.5 million less than Otto Porter’s peak year. $3 million less than Whiteside and Drummond who were signed the prior year under a slightly lower cap.

Mills was a mistake. Aldridge was not.

Think if the Spurs were fully healthy they could afford to trade whoever of the two is not in their long term plans. As it is, I don’t know how you can trade any if you don’t bring back a positional replacement.

Spurs have only two rotation veteran bigs so you can’t spare Davis right now and only 3 true rotation wings healthy Danny (and he’s had groin recurring injuries), Manu (rest games, minutes restrictions, odd injuries here or there), Kyle (missed 8 games but so far has been durable.) After that you have absolute micro sized lineups... so Spurs can’t spare them.

Rumors are Rudy won’t be back until after ASB, Kiwi is still out. Both guys are on very low $ deals. It doesn’t make sense to trade them unless you get a forward or big back.

I think most people on this forum thought Mills was the second best player on the Spurs at this point last year & the best backup PG in the league . Pau's contract will be easy to dump (essentially an expiring contract as final season is only 6 mil guaranteed) as teams will be desperate to unload cap space for free agency at the end of the year.

Re ed piece. Spurs aren't going to play more than Aldridge and Gasol come playoffs time. Maybe they can get an upgrade of Lauvergne, but they won't be desperately persuing a big, since they already have their two rotation bigs.

And then that about being "old" is some lazy circa mid 2000's.

What the Spurs really need to upgrade is their guard play. Trying to finally get that dinamic player that can breakdown defenses with penetration.

Problem is you need a lottery pick(s) to get those. Either through the draft or trade, that is.

Spurs are nuts if they don't move Leonard. Get what you can for damaged goods and move on.

The aldridge extension was a mistake because he isnt a great playoff performer...and he is affected by not being the best player on the team (lillard and kawhi)

So u think Aldridge is better than Lillard? If so, u are in the minority...ppl have considered Lillard the best player in that team for at least two years before LA left in a tizzy
