Panther RB Christian McCaffreys grandpa Dave Sime (Oly silver 1960) is still considered one of the top three/four greatest white American sprinters ever.
Sime is the last white American to win an Olympic 100m medal. And in that race we had future NFLers Frank Budd Eagles and Ray Norton Niners. All three Americans had held the 100 yrd WR. As we saw Lyle Lovett the starter. (I better say...kidding)

In 1890 George W. Johnson became the first African American to record commercially. A common story is that Johnson, a former slave, was discovered singing on the streets of Washington, D.C., by Berliner recording agent Fred Gaisberg. Gaisberg himself perpetrated this myth along with the falsehood that Johnson was later hanged for murdering his wife******
According to historian Tim Brooks, Johnson was a familiar figure in New York City's 's Kitchen and made his first commercial recordings in the spring of 1890 for the Metropolitan and New Jersey Phonograph companies. Previously, Johnson had also made tin foil exhibition recordings. Later in 1890, a group called The Unique Quartette followed Johnson into the recording studio. The Unique Quartette recorded again in 1893, and one of their les, "Mama's Black Baby Boy" survives in stunning fidelity.

He recorded for Sun Records which gave us the first Elvis, Howlin' Wolf, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis recordings.

I own a book by Julius Lester....To Be A Slave. Here we find letters written by the slaves, yes some could read and write. Obviously a must read.
When I find something that interests me the first thing I do is rush back to it's origins, the beginnings and work my way back. I must have it all, ya could call it a phobia. I do get a big grin when I read......ya Googled that.......which is actually....nobody can just know all that.![]()
