I'm still holding out hope, but not much. I would hate to see such a talented player leave this franchise. He seems like the perfect fit for this organization and this city.

However, the writing seems to be on the wall that A. He probably won't play again this season and B. He probably won't be a Spur after this season.

    I do hope I'm WRONG

    Nice research!

Maybe D-Rob can come in and bond with Kawhi since they are both very devout. I suppose that would be sort of a mercenary use of faith though....
    Thanks

And regarding the bolded - by any means necessary at this point tbh

Choosing to sit out because he's pissed at the roster the FO has put around him.

Yup, good research indeed. I'm glad to read he is spiritual. I know a lot of people might be negative towards this post but I hope Kawhi prays about the entire situation and comes to a conclusion he is at peace with. Although I honestly feel he's going to LA , I think he is being forced to. If not and it is his choice then so be it. What can we do about it. I just hope this isn't all a stunt by the uncle because if it is then it makes Kawhi look bad.

This comment is so dumb. What does he want? We are a damn near 50 win team without Kawhi, we have 3 hall of famers, veteran players with championship experience, and we have had some bad fortune and untimely injuries this season and we are still the 3 seed in the West. We were the best team in the ing league last year and you act like "poor Kawhi is all alone"

We were a 60 win team last year. Nobody in the league would be a 50 win caliber team without their first option except Golden State. Saying the roster is is such a weak excuse.

Kawhi is paid millions to play a game. We were in position to win the NBA championship last year with the same roster. And you think he should be pissing and pouting and moaning because he doesnt have a godly team like the Warriors? He needs to nut the up and play some god damned ball. That is what he is paid to do. Bottom line, Kawhi is mentally melting down under the expectation of being an MVP caliber player. Not everyone can be a Duncan, Kobe, and Lebron. Kawhi just doesnt have it, he is a made choker.

Deep down I am hoping this is all to make sure he gets the super max from the Spurs. It doesn't necessarily add up, but that is my hope. I am not giving up on him until/unless he is no longer a Spur.

I’m taking it with a grain of salt. I swear I’ve heard similar from Young back in November.

Sorry, should have been more sarcastic in my remark. I actually agree that with him, they're not that far off from competing with Houston and GS.

Cheers bklynspursfan, between this and Spurs personnel actually being with him for his trip to NY shines some positive light in this crappy turn of events.

Looking at some older Kawhi/Family articles. Interesting stuff while we wait for something to happen or not happen:

    --------------------

But reportedly wants to move him to LA

I wonder if Kawhi actually voted for Donald Trump, and THIS is what has jaded his relationship with Pop. It all seems so surreal that this type of political animosity could shatter 'strong relationships' but we see it everywhere else in society. It's speculative as well, but such a narrative could help explain the suddenness and the otherwise inexplicable nature of the rift between them.

We saw this dynamic lead Dwayne Dedmon away.

And before David Lee retired, he made it clear that "his political stance got him into trouble with his former 'boss'" - whether or not he was referring to Pop is debatable. I do believe however, that David Lee on one leg would've been 10 times better than Joffrey.

This is why talking politics at work is taboo - because it affects the integrity of decision making, due to personal biases stemming from political affiliations.

I still have hope that Kawhi returns this season and that all of this hubris stems SOLELY from frustrations about the nature of the injury itself.

"Looking good in workouts, better than before"

Same as “Sooner rather than later.” It doesn’t mean anything.

At this point only him coming back and playing the rest of the schedule including B2B means anything and he’s not back yet.

This isn’t aimed at you. It’s aimed at all this ...

I don't think political differences are going to cause someone to want to walk away from 219 million dollars. , I would work for Trump himself for 219 million, and I can't stand the guy.

Besides, one of Kawhi's few Tweets was a pic with him and Obama saying it was one of the greatest moments of his life. That doesn't sound like any of the conservatives I know.

Yes he has been a warrior for us, that's true. But unfortunately a lot has appeared to have happened behind closed doors since his peak warrior moment, carrying us past Houston in the playoffs and almost to a win over the SuperWarriors last year. You can't ignore the fact that this year has hugely damaged the player-FO relationship with our best player, to the point where the smoke can't be denied. There is a fire to that smoke. And he wants out. Trust is gone on both sides now.
It may be a combination of them considering to trade him in the off-season misdiagnosing his injury, AND the horrible contracts given

I'm not giving up either and want him to retire a spur. I just find it funny that we hear all these rumors about LA and the uncle and now LA has all this cap space. I guess what I'm trying to say is it wouldn't surprise me if it happens.

It also points to Kawhi's desire to still play this year. Which, IMO, is a good sign. He may not play, but the fact that, according to Young's sources, Kawhi still wants to play.

FWIW Obama and Hillary are not synonymous choices - even if dropping the party line.

This doesn't really matter since it's his opinion. I doubt Kawhi has even been in his ear about any of this.

He's more than likely gonna continue rehabbing it with an eye on next season. Just because he's rehabbing now doesn't necessarily translate to a return any time soon. He's already told the team he's not comfortable where he's at right now.

Wouldn't surprise me either. But what LA did doesn't necessarily mean that are gunning for him per say, just that they are going to go after big names. Whether it be Kawhi, LeBron, Cousins, PG13. They want to make a splash. Hopefully it is this off season with PG13 and not next with Kawhi.

Apppreciate the contrarian to all this negativity ...and its good you are loyal to your hometown guy. but no, he is not better than LeBron or Durant. definitely top 5 when healthy and probably top 3. SF just stacked right now ...
I'd give u lebron... He is definitely better than Durant... No question...

It is more than just his opinion. He said his sources told him. Whether his sources are right is one thing, but it definitely isn't just an opinion. At least not according to Young.

Sources tell the San Antonio Express-News Leonard was rehabbing in New Jersey over the All-Star break. If his leg were to improve, Leonard still hopes to attempt a comeback next month; hence Popovich kept the door slightly open for a return while appearing skeptical.
