Christians go into freak-out mode as Satanist opens city council meeting with a prayer

Once again, Satanists are showing their masterful skills at trolling Christians who claim to be proponents of “religious freedom.”

During a city council meeting in Pensacola, Florida this Thursday, a co-founder of the local Satanic Temple stepped to the speaker’s podium to say a prayer, but not before he was interrupted by a crowd of people – mostly members of the United Methodist Church of Pace – who seemed genuinely freaked out at David Suhor’s alleged demonic presence.

As soon as Suhor approached the podium, the crowd stood and began reciting the Lord’s Prayer.

According to WEARTV, Council President Charles Bare called for order in the room and told the crowd to quiet down or they would have to leave. As the crowd continued to disrupt Suhor’s prayer, Pensacola Police escorted numerous people out.

“If you deviate away from what I feel is proper invocation speech, I will have you removed from the chamber,” Bare warned Suhor.

“I would rather be in a room than let darkness sit here by itself,” one man in the audience declared.

    From WEARTV:

Once order was regained, Suhor began his invocation. Many continued to pray. Councilmember Gerald Wingate walked out.

Afterwards, several people in the crowd took to the podium to express their disapproval with the council’s decision to allow the Suhor’s invocation in the first place.

Suhor then returned to the podium and began talking about his invocation rights of which Council President Bare agreed.

Suhor, later, returned to the podium and condemned the Council for giving such a prominent role to religion in its proceedings. He said that the chamber of the Council should be a place where anyone could come and address their government. No one should be feeling like a minority here. The Council should be able to invite anyone, not just specific people, otherwise, it is better to drop the whole invocation charade altogether. Suhor also asked the Council, and the Christian community, to quit pushing the Christian privilege around.

I'm saying this "satanist" trolling of the most powerful voting bloc in the country doesn't help.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. I'm saying in a country of 323 million we can't stop a few people from acting like this.

Besides if those people didn't have this to get upset about they would find something else. That's the whole purpose of shows like Fox & Friends to find bull stories to get their viewers upset about

Yes it does, actually. It's completely counterproductive. It adds nothing to the conversation and reenforces prejudices that cause people to continue to live in the stone ages.

It's "triggering lib s for the lulz" in reverse. Be better.

I have no delusion that I can stop them. What I can do is tell them they're being re ed.

Meh the high road hasn't worked either. Never will.

I think at worst the productivity level in either direction is zero.

What prejudice is that exactly? It certainly puts things like official prayers and monuments into perspective. This notion that evangelicals will now go into service talking about witches and evil where they didn't before just tells me you have never been in one of those churches.

Personally, I much prefer them focusing on inconsequential faux satanists while demonstrating their double standard quite clearly than on things like video games, music, and pretty much the entirety of pop culture as they have been doing for the rest of the time.

As for the conversation it adds the topic: Christians show religious intolerance about other faiths and really only seek to proselytize and advance their delusion through actions like those illustrated here.

Sure it has. Religious practice and iden y are declining, and not because of lolsatanism. It's not going to disappear overnight.

I didn't say they would. All this does is reenforce their paranoia about satanism, witches and evil.

Personally, I much prefer them focusing on inconsequential faux satanists while demonstrating their double standard quite clearly than on things like video games, music, and pretty much the entirety of pop culture as they have been doing for the rest of the time.
Who exactly do you think they're demonstrating a double standard to, outside of the nonreligious?

As for the conversation it adds the topic: Christians show religious intolerance about other faiths and really only seek to proselytize and advance their delusion through actions like those illustrated here.
Right. That's why I said be better. Why make conflicted people choose between two sides they perceive to be intolerant or patronizing?
