Actually chump, the EU is looking at facebook very hard. Big government is getting uneasy with facebooks harvesting and using the data on individuals.
You know when you see an ad for Little Debbie, and above the ad it lists two or three of your friends like "like" Little Debbie? That's this.
you don't even need to give apps permission to access your friends list anymore, advertisers can target you and your friends on Facebook simply based on your browsing behavior. It's honestly not all that sketchy, unless that data gets into the hands of people who can identify you individually.
Yeah, I think regulation there and here is inevitable and really always was. People are just now starting to realize what they are giving away with social media and smart devices. FB was making hay while the sun was shining. I'm sure they have plans for most contingencies.
You're right. I read it differently.
Still, Trump or at the very least Kushner, Bannon and Manafort all knew what Analytica was doing and didn't do anything to stop it. You might want to add Trump to your ed list. Regardless if he knew or not.
Ultimately he has to take responsibility for how his own campaign was ran.
I know TSA refuses to watch the videos, but imagine the Trump campaign officials getting that same spiel from Nix.
Not that they didn't already know -- look who their former VP is.
That sounds like a recruitment pitch. "We're big Obama fans, come work for us!" And even if it's not, Facebook is a private company who is free to disable certain components of its platform at any time for any reason. It is constantly reacting, changing and optimizing to how people are using, and potentially abusing, their platform. It is not inherently wrong (and certainly not illegal) for them to decide not to prevent the campaign from using data in this way.
Most importantly, the data in the Time article was accessed through Facebook with users' permission to do so. That's the biggest fundamental difference between this and CA. Oh, and they accessed the data by misleading about their intentions. Oh, and then they lied about having it or using it.
Campaign digitial director Jared had RNC demographic data which he/Bannon/Manafort probably gave to CA.
CA put it all together gave it of Pootin. The cyber army attack was engaged.
Honestly, TSA, if you weren't so hopelessly committed to soldiering for Donald Trump at every sign of potential scandal, this would be a dream conspiracy for you.
Not enough baby eating.
Not yet, anyway.
The EU may do something but I doubt our government will do much.
Cambridge Analytica's Ad Targeting Is the Reason Facebook Exists
Thousands of third party apps were designed solely to obtain and sell your data. It's no surprise that the data ended up being used again on Facebook, one of the biggest advertising platforms on Earth.
I have associated my account with 100 separate third party apps. Besides common ones like Spotify, Venmo, and Uber, I have given access to my account to apps
According to these settings, however, lots of these apps still have access to the same information Cambridge Analytica used to target Facebook users with political ads that helped Donald Trump win the 2016 presidential election.
Typing Maniac—a game I vaguely remember from college—has access to my public profile, my friend list, my relationship status, my “relationship interests,” my birthday, my work history, my status updates, my education history, my events, my hometown, my current city, photos I’m tagged in and that I’ve uploaded, my religious and political views, my videos, my website, my personal description, and my “likes.”
“Cambridge Analytica used an information extraction technique that was well-known to technologists for years.
The implications of this debacle is about crystallizing the threat about how dangerous the information ecosystem is.”

FB's childish dreamer develpers were sorta like Internet protocols in the early days, when the original developers assumed good faith on the tiny number of users, and were struggling just to get protocols to work, so almost no security was built in, and security had to be hacked in over the next 30+ years, and they are still working on it.
FB dreamers came along much later and should have known, and very certainly did know, how nasty a place Internet is, but naively, stupidly assumed good faith.
The user data is now "out of the barn" and no assurances that CA or anybody else will destroy it will not be believed. Pootin's cyber army sure admit they even have CA's data. And CA is run by a Russian, so you know there's no good faith innocence there, just the opposite.
I hope billionaire Cruz/Trash fellator Mercer gets implicated in the CA debacle.
The Congressional Repugs are REFUSING to help the states upgrade, secure, harden their voting systems, proving Repugs are quite happy with outdated, hackable voting systems amenable to Repugs' own counting fraud.
Pretty sure I warned TSA about troll farms and Facebook being complicit in alot of this .
Also. Funny that TSA has yet to watch the video.
Snowboarding wasnt that hard since I had surfed and skateboarded. I got Ok at it but preferred bashing blacks on skis. Back then they didnt have the half pipes and cool for the boarders.
Man, TSA disappeared after post 80 on this thread. I get it though, as a Trumpie, it’s hard to come to terms with him being complicit and knowing how illegitimate his presidency is.
He just needs time for his superiors to tell him what to post.
Goalposts will be moved.
Conspiracies will be pimped.
Distractions will be attempted.
Susan Rice will still be free.
Are people really surprised or mad about this? This is politics. It’s been dirty for a long time, we are just in the modern age. But dirty smear type campaigns have always existed as well as deception and lies.
Stamos quits FB as other Execs dont want to be open about Russian abuse of FB
i'm mad about it. i don't remember an u.s election having foreign influence like this before. do you?
I would say in this day and age, the likelihood of finding out is greater. I can’t say personally that I specifically know of a foreign interference like the one that appears to have occurred here, but I would not at all be surprised to find this common place.
Also, whether foreign or domestic, this type of meddling occurs and has pissed me off for a long time. I’m just saying I don’t get the outrage here vs historically. Some people may take more issue with it being foreign based, but I’m pretty sure that happens all the time and I also think it’s just as bad domestically (personally).
I mean, look at what the DEMS did to Bernie very openly. There was only a small amount of outrage there and that was completely rigged to get Hilary nominated.
Cheating’s been in football since always but people sure get salty when the Patriots do it.
