I guess some of us were just naive thinking Parker vs Manu was about best guard of the generation, offensive leader, and second place on big 3 masthead. It made sense to take sides because it was mutually exclusive

Parker and Kawhi have literally nothing to do with each others success or failure. Yet people insist on assuming they hate eachother, and they themselves hate parker to prove they are the most kahwi lover in a field of kawhi lovers.

if there were a bunch of Danny Green boosters, the KOF would attack them too.
KOF have made a few anti Duncan threads.
I criticized Parker like most guys here but Chinook wasn't bothered by it until I replied to him this...

Kawhi's a generational talent on defense playing with the Spurs or Bucks.

If a guy on Milwaukee has these numbers...he would be DPOY.

-Kawhi is the only player in NBA history has ac ulated an Offensive Rating OVER 116 and a Defensive Rating UNDER 98.

    -
Spurs give up .97 w/him on court and 1.02 with him off

-Kawhi Leonard has the best defensive rating of any player over the last 3 seasons

I wonder why he's mad at Kawhi's numbers, or him being one of the top perimeter defender of all time...

Most of these player fans are just kids who have only been basketball fans for a couple of years and judging by the way post constantly on this thread they have never played basketball or any type of sport. We call them, no ballers. They are low BBIQ as they lack experience to know the game. Watching ESPN or a couple of games in tv or playing video games is not got the same as playing team ball.
The Spurs have gotten the respect of the NBA and the fans because of what was built decades ago. I don't recall ever seeing so many spurs fans on the road as I do now.

He's awesome, so we like him a bit.
    Of course...

You're not going to rationalize that folks like Apa and YGWHI are normal fans just because they like the best player. They are on a level beyond how normal Duncan fans were (save perhaps Duncan228, may she rest in Internet peace). Apa, Kawhitstorm and obviously Harlem are a lot smarter and in general have better insight than folks give them credit for, so I'm fine with letting them hang around the general population, but there are others who just have to be called what they are.
So he lets them hang aroung, right? His God complex is more serious than I thought.

Thats on the advancement of advanced stats. That has nothing to do with what bowen or duncan didnt win in the past.
Duncan and Bowen, didn't win for a variety of reasons. One, they had each other and even though Duncan had a far greater impact, the thinking went, that they at least somewhat cancelled each other out. Two, neither fit the stereotypical description of a great defender and before advanced stats and in depth analysis, this unfortunately mattered. Three, the Spurs weren't nearly as respected then as they are now.

    Is kawhi overrated?
Well, Moncrief and Cooper say otherwise.

“I’m very, very happy for his success,” said Cooper, an eight-time All-Defensive selection and 1987 Defensive Player of the Year.

“I think this is a kid that’s quiet, doesn’t speak a lot, but he lets his game do his talking,” Cooper said. “He’s very strong, long arms, and he’s just tough, he’s a tough kid. The one thing that’s important about being a good defensive player is taking away the offensive player’s angles and he goes a great job with that.”

Moncrief’s defense was the stuff of nightmares — he was Freddy Krueger before “A Nightmare on Elm Street” existed. The Milwaukee Bucks legend was a sinewy, springy 6-3 guard, a five-time All-Defensive selection, and an early nemesis of Jordan.
“When you play against Moncrief, you’re in for a night of all-around basketball,” Jordan once said. “He’ll hound you everywhere you go, both ends of the court. You just expect it.”

The five-time All-Defensive selection, whose retired No. 4 hangs from the rafters of the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, believes Leonard, just five seasons into his career, has earned a seat at the table alongside legends like himself and Cooper.

“Kawhi, I think he would certainly be at the very top,” Moncrief said. “He anticipates well. He has outstanding hands, big hands, so when he gets his hand on the ball he’s strong enough to just rip it from players.
“And Kawhi is actually a very good off the ball defender … That’s normally totally discounted. You don’t always see that with ‘good defenders.’ When they get off the ball they relax, don’t give support to their teammates — you don’t see that with Kawhi.”

“There’s a quiet confidence about him and I like that because he never gives himself away,” said Cooper, who found himself embroiled in linguistic battles with Larry Bird during his playing days. “He doesn’t wear his emotions on his sleeves, so whether you’re scoring on him or not, you’ll never know that you’re getting to him.

“If he ever did that, ever came out of his norm, as an offensive player I know, OK, I got this guy, I got this guy. All great offensive players like that feeling when they get a defensive player frustrated because they really go to work on him. With Kawhi, he just does his job, doesn’t say anything, doesn’t change expressions.”

“I’ll tell you what: In Hollywood, when they want to make a lasting impression of you, they pour down wet cement and you put your hands in there,” Cooper said. “Well, the cement has been poured for him and he’s taken two giant, bold steps on his way to being considered one of the best.“His footprints are firmly printed in the cement, and there’s going to be a lot of wet cement ahead of him if he continues making his mark on this game of basketball as a defensive player.”

"But but it's so sad that multiple DPOYs don't agree with Chinook about Kawhi's overrated defense"

Yeah, because a 3 year slide (where they were still around the top 10) supersedes the previous 11 years where they were perennially elite, including having the best single season defense ever.

Leonard was obviously a significant part of restoring the defense to elite, but so too were Duncan getting his knee more stable and the additions of Splitter and Green.
YES. The Spurs' teams of the 90's (really the first two championships) into the 00's, the Spurs were always in the top 2 or 3 defensively.

With the exception of that 3 or so year period that you described, elite defense has ALWAYS been a hallmark of a Popovich team. I agree with you also that Kawhi has brought the team back to a level that is as good or better than the Duncan/Robinson teams, but it has always been the thing that the Spurs have hung their hats on.

He grew up with the dude, I am sure that was such a difficult recruit

Face it his draft pick recommendations have been ass. Falling back on a French guy he grew up with as his great gm decision, because I'm sure there is a ton more of those out there.
