yeah but your post history here doesn't seem like you held your nose and voted for trump... you've spend every waking moment complaining about liberalism about a year after supporting bernie sanders
It's been well over a year. Almost two years.

Still get a kick out of how some people swallowed the Repug Rights fabrication of "Bernies a Socialist"

Newsflash, add up all the taxes we pay combined. USA already is a farking Socialist Taxed % state. We just don't get the bennies that Sweeden and Norway do.
Because those countries don't have a military. When the time comes they'll depend on us. Perhaps they should pay us for that.

Or they could just pivot to another nuclear power which would be happy to replace our military bases on those countries with theirs. Geopolitcs are pretty complicated.

I didn't vote for either candidate after Bernie got cheated tbh. Some people did vote for Trump because of that. Justifiable imho.

Ok, so if you earn 61K a year you get to pay the same high flat rate as someone who earns 60m a year. That's how they do it. Since we don't have a flat tax, we take in less money from income taxes than these countries you mention. Do you want to pay 60% of your income to the federal government?

In the US, the top marginal tax rate of 46.8 percent (state average and federal combined rates) kicks in at 8.5 times the average U.S. income (around $400,000). In Sweden and Norway, the top marginal tax rate of 56% kicks in at 1.6x the average income (= to about 60K USD).

True, but, you do get a better safety net/quality of life in the form of subsidized healthcare, paid leave, longer vacation times, or even in some countries (Finland), basic income, etc.

And I know this degenerates quickly into 'handouts!' shouting matches, but ultimately, abuses of the safety net are an oversight problem, they're not a safety net problem.

    "abuses of the safety net"

are so minuscule they can be ignored, but play well with Repugs' racist base, although most people on public assistance are white.

Abuses by the oligarchy are real, HUGE problems but the oligarchy is wealthy enough to hire political s to LIE, or remain silent, in the oligarchy's impregnable defense, esp impregnable among the WHITE poor who swallow blindly the oligarchy's sliming of the poor and Labor as Capital s the lower 80%

They only applied to Boomers of the past generations in the last two centuries. It's wishcasting from GOPo s. If anything the current GOP leader is cementing the reality given his historic unpopularity.
Meh the Boomers still voted for Nixon. They were never on the left.

And people are free to move there and engage in it. I prefer to keep my money, live in a house larger than a small apartment, determine my quality of life based on my decisions and effort, have something to do when "longer vacation" comes around other than going to some archipelago on a cold sea or sitting a sauna all day drinking coffee.

I don't want to spend all my money to live in a retirement community.

I spend a lot of time in that region and it's a beautiful place to visit, but everyone I meet there complains that they cannot afford to live like Americans. They also don't border with a 3rd world country, don't have a history of slavery, weren't built by chinese migrant workers, didn't kill all the natives and put a few on reservations to open the land for the homesteaders, etc..

Different dynamic over there, but I don't want that over here.

Besides, didn't people get pissed when Trump commented "why can't we get some people from Norway here instead of some hole country?"

The Norwegians in Norway mostly got pissed since they all universally laughed at the idea of wanting to come here. Some hall of fame level tweets about it iirc

Absolutely. After taxes and before death, you do with your money what you want

And yeah, it's just different, but I don't know if I would catalogue better or worse, tbh... like safety next probably better (depending on country), but what you keep in your pocket, worse... so it's a balancing act that's eventually very personal.

There's plenty of cases of people migrating either way and then things not working out and heading back. I don't know you have to be a migrant, but if you spent any considerable time overseas, you certainly start noticing the stuff that work/don't work for you in that place.

When was Bernie ever the "winning team"? Logic fail.
bernie is what he's always been.... a big mouth with no spine. dude folded and sold out to HRC in a blink of an eye. you really want a dude to be president who talks out both sides of his mouth and has no legs to stand on? 2face bernie.

What doesn't work: 4 hours of daylight in the winter, price of Lapland piss (beer), 2 hours of darkness in the summer where people don't ever go to bed.
What does work: Every girl is a supermodel...... reindeer steaks...

I don't think those age numbers really apply anymore, tbh... probably did with boomers, but not anymore...

More of a cosmopolitan, non-cosmopolitan split these days, IMO, at least looking at the latest national election trends...

Trump is a clown and has so far been very ineffectual, tbh (except on Twitter, I guess), but I understand the appeal when you have Shillary on the other side. I don't think he'll have more than one term, IMO, but that's largely dependent on who the Dems line up... if it's Shillary again, he has a chance and the Dems might awsell implode and start over.

At any rate, I don't think that's related to my question on the OP. Trump is unlikely to change anything when it comes to political status quo, and that was a fairly safe bet even before the election.

I just don't understand the thought 'evolution' from far left to far right in a short period of time, unless you're very superficial when it comes to politics in general... that said, if you buy the 'outsider' meme, it might be just it, tbh...
I think that's a big part of the "Bernie or Trump" people but they also had similar messages to the working class.

Honestly don't know how you think Trump has been completely ineffective except on twitter. He's done more damage to the progressive agenda than anyone since Reagan, probably more than Reagan tbh.

In what sense, tbh? Obamacare is perhaps the largest, longest standing bullseye on the GOP crosshairs, and there it is.

Actually, I would even argue he did more damage to the GOP brand than he did the Dems.

    - His perhaps biggest accomplishment so far, tax reform, basically acknowledged what the left has been claiming forever, that they only take care of the rich.

    - The abject failure to down Obamacare is deeply rooted on the fact that, as Dems have been claiming for a while, the GOP has yet to come up with palatable health reform that doesn't look like a scam. Even with the Executive and Congress in their control. That's pretty amazing, considering that Obamacare is another scam, tbh.

I can't think of anything else noteworthy that doesn't involve sensationalist stuff like Russia, firing people or porn stars, tbh...

Yet to be seen, the talks with NK and how this gamble on tariffs play out...
