Keep Anderson, Gay, Green (maybe Bertans)
    Bye BP3 Bye Forbes
    Trade one of Mills, Gasol
(if u trade mills draft a shooter vice versa)
Keep at least 1 of Parker, Manu for leadership (veteran minimum)
    Promote White to Manu's role
    Bring over Militunov
See if u can somehow sign Aaron Gordon or Jabari Parker
    Sign one more shooter
Aaron Gordon and Leonard would just be sick. I would love to see it happen. To get him would require losing Murray and much more. And probably have to take on Bimbo's contract on top of it. RFA are hard to get.

Stop mentioning Hanga. He's old already and sucks ass.
yeah, i had given up on hanga when a few years ago he basically declined to come to the nba, saying he wasn't ready.

but right now he's 27 and last month stated pretty deliberately that it his is intention to play in the nba next season. wonder how serious he is about that, or what the buyout requirements are going to be.

edit: disregard... outdated article, wrong info

As others have mentioned, getting Kawhi healthy and extended is the only thing that matters. If they do that, they have a great chance to be a top 3 team. If they can do that and move on from TP/Manu and Murray/White/Kyle can keep developing they should be good.

He actually turns 29 in a few days if his Wiki is correct. He will be 30 by this time next year, and 31 by the time Pop would consider giving him meaningful minutes.

And this is a guy who isn't exactly lighting it up overseas right now. He would be a clear downgrade even from Danny Green with how he looks at the moment. I don't know what PATFO is thinking, but I think it's time to move on from him, imo. Just add him to the list of Euro Spurs picks who never amounted to anything in the NBA.

Yes. Kawhi is the one move that needs to happen if the Spurs want to be compe ive.

If they seek to be the favorites then more moves are needed, obviously.

There is nothing that can really happen to make SA the favorites with HOU/GS currently constructed.

Maybe not in the eyes of the media who are in love with those teams sure. Still, Kawhi is so good that, if surrounded with better pieces in positions of need, there's no doubt in my mind that they would be the best team in the NBA.

A little off-topic, but I love how just about everyone has changed their stance on Houston. Remember when everyone here said they wouldn't work it out with CP3? Just goes to show how quickly things can change in the NBA. "Nothing can happen" my ass.

I am giving you all the benefit of the doubt that we are using reasonable assumptions. Going from Kawhi not playing the whole season to SA singing Bron and Kawhi is not reasonable to me. Of course that would vault them to “favorites” status but no one is jumping completely over GS unless something ridiculous happens.

I’m talking about likely scenarios here and if something unlikely happens we can talk about it then.

Also, when I say “won’t become favorites” that doesn’t mean they cant win a le. It just means with what HOU/GS have looked like and their talent level, on paper no one can really become favorites.

Making a few upgrades here and there, and having good showings against the best teams next season, possibly making them the favorites once that happens, is unlikely?

    Okay. Gotcha.

I understand, though I believe there are "realistic moves" that could be made to bring the team closer to the top level, but I do not think Pop would make aggressive moves on the market

I think the Spurs were there already last year. Meaning, they could win it all if things broke right, but they would not be a favorite in Vegas going into a series.

There are definitley some moves they can make to bolster the roster and close the gap, but to the point where everyone says “Move over Warriors, the new Spurs dynasty is here!”? That falls into the improbable category.

Imo, it's just bull to say "nothing can happen". This is the NBA, and anything can happen. We could be talking about a Spurs team that dominated those two teams and have suddenly catapulted themselves to favorites by many this time next year.

Unlikely? Yeah. Probably, given how PATFO has been along with Kawhi's situation being up in the air. To imply it could never happen though is nonsensical.

Ok, go through the exercise then. What could the Spurs do in your mind if things broke perfect to Vegas Favorit Jump: Curry, KD, Klay & Draymond?

Aggressive moves like trading for Jefferson, then Kawhi, then Stephen Jackson? Signing Gasol and Aldridge?

Pop is not a trailblazer but he is definitely willing to shake things up. This is obviously the year to do it especially if Kawhi is unhappy or unhealthy.

Upgrade, stay healthy, and beat the best teams handidly. That's all they could do. If the Warriors suffer more injuries then the odds of being considered favorites go up exponentially.

Unlikely? Sure. Could never happen? Bull .

even if the spurs renounce all their cap holds, we're still looking at next to no cap space unelss green/gay opt out. pau/patty collectively absorbing 30 mil per year is disgusting.

parker's bad deal is set to expire and now we basically have 2 similar caliber deals for the next few years

Sign James. James is the one player who could get into Leonard's head and get him on the court.

    1) They need to convince Manu to play for another season
    2) Sort out the thing with Kawhi

    In that order...

That would be so awesome. It would be a change of pace for the Spurs to aggressively pursue someone like Lebron but the whole city and the mayor would have to throw a campaign at him for that. Would be legit MJ and Scottie combo with Kawhi as MJ!
