If the Spurs aren't willing to offer him the max because his quad got worse in the summer, as Danny Green said, we can agree that Spurs doctors mishandled his injury in some way.

Was Kawhi ready to play when he already did it in mid-season and had a setback? A possible career-altering injury and they cleared him to play instead of resting Kawhi the season and looking for the treatments he didn't receive in the summer?

The trusting issues are never about just one side.
On the flip side, we know that NOT to be true because in the only interview that Kawhi gave in early March, he himself said he was very close and already doing 4v4.

So if there was a setback, it happened under Kawhi’s doctors watch and had nothing to do with SA. His doctors found nothing different, didn’t recommend surgery and even tough he was close to playing nearly 2 months ago, he never got cleared under his doctors watch.

I think Pop's done pretty well in the playoffs recently. You make it sound like he's been getting knocked out in the first round on the regular or something, but he's only failed to make it to the semis once in the Kawhi era until this year (presumably). He adjusted as well as he could last year, but the team just had too many injuries to even win one game against GS. Against Houston, he did a great coaching job.

He has been getting knocked down of challenging but winnable series often and life ain't about to get easier or more perfect for him than teams he's had in the very recent past tbh... Truth is in the pudding. Maybe he innovates and goes back to focusing on basketball, but at 70, distraught? With a Kiwi-gate at home? I doubt it.
La!Marcus almost left him last season too. There's a lot to question about Pop lately...

PATFO paid Gasol and Mills. They're giving Kawhi the supermax. We should just hope he makes a full recovery.

You have to look at the history. The Spurs have ZERO record of rushing players back or even letting them play injured. Pop probably cost SA the Utah series in 98 because he wouldn't let TD play one game on a minor ankle sprain. He also held him out of the 2000 playoffs after he had meniscus smoothing minor scope surgery weeks before. THE SPURS DON'T TREAT PLAYERS LIKE MEAT. Never have, never will. Some people's blind PATFO hate causes them to project, but it's not true.

Now what I CAN see is that with Kawhi's china doll history, and games missed over his career that the Spurs wanted safeguards built in to any offer. That's just smart business. His best season of durability was his rookie year, and he played 64/66 games in the lockout shortened season. Other than that, his reliability has been questionable. He has averaged 66.8 games per season since, and that's throwing out this year's 9 game season, which I consider to be a medical hold out. You can't break the bank for a player who only plays 81% of your games, especially not the SuperMax. That guy has to be a horse, and Kawhi isn't.

LOL. people blaming Pop for a playoff loss against the Warriors when it's obvious this team is hot garbage and probably shouldn't even be in the playoffs.

^just one of Pops recent blunders...
Spurs would have gone home in 4 THIS Series if he doesn't step down. Regrettable the death of Ms. Pop, but that's what it comes down to. He was going to go home early with Paddy guarding Klay all series, Kyle playing barely 5-6 minutes, Dijon playing 10 minutes while he played 25 minutes of Davis (something he didn't like to do even in the regular season) and 20 minutes to Bryn while both were shooting blanks and oh Bryn guarding Durant for good measure.

The Spurs weren't going to win this series but Pop was making it so difficult for them to even have a chance tbh.
If these guys make 15 threes for pop it definitely doesn’t end in four.

Notice how his sister tried to debunk the "is he or isn't he injured?" question, but says nothing about whether he's still committed to the Spurs.

When is the cutoff point for them being able to offer the Supermax? Can they offer it all the way up until just before the season starts? I don't think Kawhi would be too happy with that, though. If they waited that long, he could ask out before then.

The day before the regular season begins. Like I said, they could slow play this if they're on the same page, but don't want to come off as kowtowing to him. In reality, the entire franchise is in limbo, so they should look to resolve this as soon as possible.

I think Pop is looking at this "NO TRADE" to WC teams let alone the lakers a little narrow. Kawhii is a free agent after next season anyways. If he is dictating where he wants to go why don't you send him where he wants to go. There is still a 50/50 chance that kawhii might pull a Dwight and leave the Lakers after one season. if you think about it You guys can end up with Julius Randle in a sign and trade and possibly Brandon Ingram on the wing with a Cleveland #1 draft pick. Randle and Ingram under Pop will thrive with LMA and the spurs will still make the playoffs next season....
