No. Fired gets you paid. They mutually agreed to end the contract. He's free and doesn't get paid. If he were fired, he'd have to wait out the duration of the contract to take a job, or lose the remainder of his pay.

Time to come home Bud. Hawks were never worth his time anyway. Will always be a garbage franchise.
They were, until they started cutting corners. Before his first season, they failed to offer a contract to Josh Smith, their only All Star, and the team shot up to 60+ wins. I think ownership took that to be a blueprint, because it seemed like every time it came time for someone's contract to expire, they either traded them or cut them loose: Horford, Milsap, Korver...
He'll be in demand and I wouldn't be surprised if he shot up as a top candidate for the Knick or Piston HC spot.
Ideally, I'd love to see him back in SA and takes over as HC once Pop decides he done coaching.
I've lived in ATL for over a decade and witnessed several top picks going to waste there. Clearly not a great ownership.
It was announced that he will receive his pay, so, after all, fired.
Lots of history between him and PATFO. If Pop decides to retire, Bud would be a natural choice. And if he returns to the Spurs that is a statement of future intent on both sides.
I think Becky would be a long shot but the Spurs FO and especially Pop might want to make a statement by hiring the first woman HEAD coach in the NBA. Frankly, I suspect that Becky would be a good head coach, based on her summer league demonstration, but you never know about coaches until they actually take the helm.
Becky would be able to coach the type of players that made up the Spurs in the past. Not so sure about these news guys. There work ethic is not nearly as big as their ego.
Bud was a good coach, but as a GM he was awful. The talent he got rid of was ridiculous.
Plus he traded for Dwight Howard.
If Pop retired I’d bet heavy on Monty Williams.
Wow. I completely forgot about Monty. I really like Monty.
Would anyone else here support Monty Williams for head coach? I would be very interested in having Monty be the head coach.
I'd love to have Bud on Spurs' coaching staff again. I wonder if Messina would feel the same way...
Not crazy about Monty or Bud tbqh... though Bud is probably a better offensive coach than Messina.
I wonder if Pops Family situation chills the market on Buds some. Folks might want to confirm Pop comes back to Spurs first, as they’d assume Bud would be the heir apparent here.
Wouldn’t mind Blatt as a assistant.
There is such a thing as "the Spurs Culture" that has been forged over the last 20 years. If any of the current management still has a say--as opposed to the ownership--you can bet a Pop replacement will be somebody with Spurs history.
