    http://www.nba.com/article/2018/04/30/morning-tip-lebron-james-kawhi-leonard-paul-george-future-playoff-exits?collection=david-aldridge

The sense one gets is that Leonard isn't burning to leave town, but at 26, he realizes this is his best and last chance to look around, see what else is out there. And he sees other franchises that allow their superstars a certain, shall we say, leeway in determining how they'll handle their business. They bring friends into the organization, both formally and informally, to guide them and give them familiar faces with which they're comfortable with to travel and hang out with at home.

That is not the Spurs' Way.

To me this is the only way you can have sustained success like the Spurs have had for almost 2 decades. The Spurs are a tried and true system. I would see they might try to accommodate some of that but I'm pretty sure he isn't going to become the new Iverson at San Antonio

Wanting people around is no big deal at all. Pretty much all stars have this going on; even Tim did to a degree.

Or maybe that’s the way he’s always been..except he stood in his place with #21 still around and now with #9 and #20 out the door he wants the keys to the castle...

It’s leverage any Top 5 player would want not named Duncan in a smaller market..I mean didn’t Duncan ask for the same thing during Orlando pitch to him???

Like the article said..Kawhi KNOWS he has the Lakers or other big markets by the balls..why not ask for the most you can get??

IMO there’s not much to think about..especially like I said if PATFO even want to consider kicking the tires on LeBron..
Can't think of a top 5 player outside of Lebron that had that type of control. Curry-Durant don't have that type of power in Golden State. I don't recall Harden having that type of power in Houston. I'm not down with the Spurs hiring his unqualified idiot friends and family members for jobs and influence within the organization. Not even Duncan tried to levy for a power grab like that.

From what I call the type of power Duncan had within the organization was that the Spurs FO would consult with him when it came to free agent signings, trades, etc. I remember many years ago when Peter Holt was having a contract dispute with Parker for an extension way back in the fall of '04 and asked Duncan whether or not he should give Parker the extension. Holt gave in and stated he did it because Duncan told him to do it. If Kawhi wants that type of influence that's fine but nothing beyond that.

Spurs "culture" is going to have to change in order for leo to stay and even have chance at lebron. Its basically holt making kawhi and his tio gm, coach and giving them the keys to franchise ala lebron. Its his uncle probably trying to doc rivers his way into becoming head coach and coaching his nephew to championships.

The Lebron way is a failure. He's only won 1 le in Cleveland doing his way and that's because of Draymond's stupidity.

Spurs have done the family and friends things for a while. Tim’s brother, TP’s brother, wives, kids etc...maybe not fly on the plane stuff, but pretty much anything else.

Only? He's been going up against one of the GOAT teams ever and the first time his two best teammates weren't even playing

His uncle wants to be able to veto those deals. I don't give Kawhi that type of credit when it comes to being intelligent.

Sounds like they are backing off...sounds like they have no idea how to manage this chap and they are mis leading him into a path of disaster.
How delusional thinking the can run a franchise the way they want. Bizarre.

You don’t know that...LeBron is pretty much the only superstar that has all of his business public..like I even mentioned..Tim Duncan even brought up the idea to the Magic and from rumor/speculation was a deal breaker.

Kawhi wants control. I’m fine with that tbh because he has sole control of where this franchise goes..he realizes that leverage and he wants to take advantage of it.

Kawhi has been in shackles to an extent with his early years..he isn’t the guy most thought...still remember when I saw him clapping and talking to Jimmers face during the SDST/BYU battles...why haven’t we seen that Kawhi?? Because he stood in his lane...and respected his place in the organization at the time. Now he wants full control..if Spurs won’t give it to him someone else will...

    The choice is theirs...

He's the reason why they lost Kyrie. He got Tristan Thompson and JR Smith overpaid with contracts. Lebron is not a great GM it's why he will flee Cleveland after this year. Players in general are pretty stupid when it comes to building a team and scouting talent. Duncan once admitted in an interview when he first saw Parker and Manu practice he didn't think they would amount to much. Jordan balked at Krause for trading Oakley for Cartwright and at the idea Horace Grant could be an adequate replacement for Oakley.

Duncan wanted his wife and family to be on plane trips which I'm willing to give a pass for but he didn't demand anything else. There is no other superstars that have that type of control over a team besides Lebron. Unless it's do ented that others have that control I'm going to believe nobody has Lebron type of control over a team.

Yes indeed and with his $19 million salary last year alone he could easily buy them all nice homes nearby.

I'm not joking. There is no reason he can't have his family and friends near.

They would be willing to let Uncle Lavar and kawhi run a train on their girlfriend if it meant that he would sign the extension.

When LeBron joined Cleveland again he thought the Spurs would be in his way. He never envisioned the Warriors becoming the powerhouse team they have become. 1 NBA le after epic Warriors chokejob, is not bad at all. Warriors have had plenty of luck as well in 2015 Love and Irving injured other teams banged up, 2017 signed a top 3 league NBA player in Kevin Durant.

Lebron is a crappy GM go read 1 of my posts from above. Not going back into much detail about that.
