During 2008 presidential election, Democrats fought the McCain-Palin (LOL) ticket with all their might -- they knew they had to win because of what was as stake. They believed Obama was the better candidate and they were right, but they never challenged the patriotism, heroism in combat and character of Mr. McCain. They certainly never said he wasn't a war hero because he was captured and that they "like people who weren't captured". They also never engaged in a whispering campaign like the one that accused Mr. McCain of fathering a child out of wedlock.
I disagree with Mr. McCain on a number of political issues but he is a true American hero who I respect. This one final act (if the reports are to be believed) is one I deeply respect....

And the more I think about this the more it makes sense. Anyone who knows Trump knows that if he got a chance to say something at the funeral service it would be comically stupid and shamelessly self-promotional. It could also end with the phrase "no collusion", if only out of habit.
