Trump falsely accuses the New York Times of making up a source. It was an official who briefed reporters.
President Trump on Saturday falsely accused the New York Times of using an unnamed source “who doesn’t exist” in a story on negotiations between the United States and North Korea, but the official cited spoke to reporters Thursday in a briefing arranged by the White House.
“The Failing @nytimes quotes ‘a senior White House official,’ who doesn’t exist, as saying ‘even if the meeting were reinstated, holding it on June 12 would be impossible, given the lack of time and the amount of planning needed,’” Trump tweeted Saturday morning.
“WRONG AGAIN! Use real people, not phony sources.”
The senior White House official cited by the Times spoke to dozens of reporters Thursday at the White House and on a conference call to brief them on Trump’s decision earlier that day to cancel his June 12 summit in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The Washington Post, which participated in the briefing, agreed to the rules as laid out by White House press officials at the time, which were to refer to the briefer as a senior White House official.
The Post also used information from that briefing in subsequent stories and continues to abide by the agreed upon ground rules.

Only 36 Percent Of Americans Would Vote To Re-Elect Trump In 2020 In New Poll
A POLITICO/Morning Consult poll released this week found that only 36 percent of voters say they would choose Trump over a Democratic candidate in the next presidential election. The survey said 44 percent of Americans stated they would vote for the Democrat.
The other 20 percent said they are undecided.
Nearly 2,000 registered voters were surveyed in the poll, conducted last week.
According to a recent Gallup poll, Trump’s approval rating as of last Sunday has been around 42% on average each week. That number was even lower (around 35%) earlier in his term,

Navy graduates deride 'physical coward' Trump ahead of Academy commencement address
Two graduates of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., penned an op-ed in The Baltimore Sun questioning President Trump's suitability to deliver the commencement speech to this year's graduating class of midshipmen on Friday.
"It is right and fitting that the president of the United States give a commencement address to a service academy’s graduating class,"
Daniel Barkhuff and William Burke wrote in Wednesday's edition of the paper.
"It is also right and fitting that citizens of the democracy for which these graduates will soon be charged with protecting point out the personal cowardice, narcissism and incompetency of the current president."
Barkhuff and Burke graduated from the Academy in 2001. They now work at Veterans for Responsible Leadership.
