Not exactly. They need a certain level of confidence that this will be manageable going forward and won't derail his career, at least anytime soon.
That is what I was inferring. That if he’s healthy (meaning not just this season, but like truly healthy) it makes all else moot.

If the Spurs really believe Kawhi is healthy, they will drop the max on him. No doubt in my mind.

They obviously need to clear the air about the whole "Kawhi's group" situation.

As for the concerns with the medical staff...if Kawhi is really worried about that, offer to hire some dedicated specialists that he trusts. They can be his own personal medical team if that's what makes him comfortable. This is an easy fix to me, because even if Kawhi leaves, he'd be going into a brand new team with an unknown medical team, and the most they could offer would be the exact same thing.

Agree....I also would imagine they would discuss with him what he needs around him. It might be a situation like with Tim where he wanted to make sure they didn't lose important pieces in the process of paying him. Kawhi strikes as someone ho wants to win.

If the Spurs able to re-sign Kawhi, can the new deal take effect on season 2019-2020 to give room for LeBron or any free agents this coming off-season?

I believe this is true: if Kawhi signs an extension his 2019-2020 salary will remain at the $21.3 it's at now, and the extension would start after that. But I could very well be wrong.

Still, making cap space is the worst way to get LeBron. Having him opt in and trading for him is far better for both the Spurs and Cavs (because they at least get something back), similar to Chris Paul opting in and being traded to Houston rather than opting out and signing as a free agent.

Ohhh thanks. With that, just take Pau and Patty for LeBron. But I still think LeBron is willing to take another pay-cut for his legacy, he's already got a lot money.

Kawhi’s extension would not come into play until the following season since he’s under contract already but since he has a contract it would not result in more cap space this year.

Pau is essentially an expiring (only $6M guaranteed in 2019-2020), so he would be salary filler. The Spurs can offer the #18 pick, Derrick White, a future first, or maybe (if this is possible) a signed-and-traded Anderson or Bertans. Anything is better than the nothing the Cavs would get by letting LeBron walk instead.

I don't read the same as several of you guys are reading.. To me it says even a SUPERMAX offer, even if the SPURS offer it, doesn't even necessarily get accepted right away by KAWHI.

    How is this a positive??

Spurs may not offer. Kawhi may not accept...$219MM.

    LOL.

So he still not 100percent . Sort of like what we have been reading all season. He close but not there yet. Three on three , needs to get to 5 on 5. He rehabbing in NY, expect him back mid march.

If he not fully fit spurs will not offer supermax. Hopefully his group is willing to take less.

I think it’s very possible that the media just loves the drama of Kawhi leaving SA and has blown it out of proportion. I keep coming back to the fact that KL never showed up to the playoff games to support from the bench. Who does that? So weird but I’m thinking this works out for the Spurs and KL.

I highly doubt he is going anywhere. You never get equal value back for a player of that magnitude. Maybe it’s another season where he is basically not playing. But in terms of the summer he is not getting traded. Jesus Christ look how much worse the Cavs are with one stupid move when their idiot owner agreed to trade Kyrie Irving. It made no sense for him to make that trade and he did and it was a disaster.

Kyrie told the Cavs if they didn’t trade him, he would have surgery, and miss most of the season. The biggest piece of that trade also isn’t known, the Brooklyn pick at #8.

My response to that would’ve been simple. Go right ahead and have knee surgery. I will make sure to leak it to the media that you are dogging it on purpose because you are acting like a Little whiny crybaby over personal issues with LeBron. If you want to wreck your brand and sit out an entire season over nothing. Be my guest.
