I dont understand how a terrible team losing to another terrible team is considered a choke

Just filled out my bracket. I went really with convention; but I do think there will be one or two surprised. I just didn't go out of my way to call them.

Some thoughts:

* Russia had better hope they win their group or that Portugal/Morocco upsets Spain somehow. They'll be meat if they face Spain in The Round of 16.

* I had Uruguay/Portugal facing off in The Round of 16. So, that'll end it for one of those dark horse candidates quickly.

* I came close to picking Belgium over Brazil in the quarterfinal. But they're chokers and what I've read, Brazil are supposed to be real contenders. You never know if it's just hype when it comes to them though.

* A Spain/Argentina final is obviously juicy with Messi going against his club country. The winner of that match-up could very well win the WC too.

* I have England over Poland on paper in The Round of 16. But England is shaky. I can see Poland winning that. I give it a 4 in 10 chance.

* I have Germany and England in yet another knockout match-up in a quarterfinal.

* Germany / Spain in a semi in a rematch of the 2010 semi. I like Germany a lot; but Spain is hot and I took them.

* France / Brazil in a rematch of the 98 final and 06 quarterfinal. Third time is not the charm for Brazil though.

* And the winner?

It could rank up there with that, tbh. Russia isn't very good; but SA (and the rest the group) was handpicked to give them a good shot at making the second round and keeping national morale high.

National morale will be high as long as no stadiums are exploded or attacked by jihadis tbqh

I had been in Spain a couple of times before (Palma de Mallorca and in Basque country in San Sebastian and Pampelona) but for some reason I'd never been to Barcelona.

For many cups the champs would start slow because its the first game and would end up in ties or needing ref help to win or tie

Now the champ will start pressure free

I watched all the asian qualifiers. Saudi is the worst defensive team in the tourbament. If russia cant score a goal i dont know what to say.

The saudis are good with possession and creating chances though and I suspect they will score a goal too.
