Judge Blocks Trump From Separating Families At The Border

The federal government has 30 days to reunite all the families split up so far.

The Trump administration has 30 days to reunite migrant families split up by immigration authorities, a federal judge ruled Tuesday, in a rebuke that blocked the administration from continuing the widely reviled practice.

The injunction signed by U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw temporarily blocks family separations

while a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union continues, and

requires the government to put together a plan to expedite reunifications.

For children younger than 5years old, the government has only 14 days to put them back into the care of their parents.

to repeat a bad joke by blatant, lifelong racist JeBo, Repugs chose for DoJ BECAUSE he is a racist, and Russian "asset"

Jeff Sessions Jokes About Family Separations Amid Controversy Over U.S. Border Policy

“We hear views on television today that are on the lunatic fringe, frankly.”

Sessions lambasted the “radicalized” left and joked that those attacking the policy were hypocrites who would gladly separate families that infiltrated their “gated communities.”

    He continued:

“They like a little security around themselves.

And if you try to scale their fence, believe me,

they’ll be only too happy to have you arrested and separated from your children.”

The quip sparked some laughter in the venue as the attorney general went on to chastise the “so-called elites.”

    divides the military, alienates locals:

“The Department of Defense is participating in a scheme that appropriates the concept of military honor to perpetrate a human rights abuse. DOD’s specific task might not be illegal, at least not unambiguously illegal. But DOD would be participating in hostage taking,” Yingling said. At the Pentagon, Yingling added, senior officials “have to decide, right now, if they’re going to participate in a clearly unethical and possibly illegal hostage scheme.”

The Bliss-stationed officer said it was “extremely stupid of the administration to consider Fort Bliss for a detention camp,” warning it would harm the base’s relationship with nearby El Paso, Texas.

“El Paso is literally right outside the gate. The El Paso community is heavily, overwhelmingly Mexican. Most commercial businesses won’t hire people that can’t navigate both English and Spanish. The border here is a formality. People go between El Paso and Juarez like New Yorkers go between neighborhoods,” said the officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to Pentagon restrictions on military personnel speaking to journalists.

“The community will not take this well, no matter how soldiers feel about it.”

This Christian Group Fostering Migrant Kids Has a History of Coercive Adoptions

Media outlets have largely overlooked the troubling record of Bethany, a well-connected powerhouse of the anti-choice movement, even as reporters have interviewed the agency’s leaders on the plight of migrant kids.

Some of those children are being housed in the state by Bethany Christian Services, a religious adoption agency with a troubling record.

“Staff at Bethany, from what they’re telling us, contact detention centers in the vicinity where the child was taken, asking the staff if they have anyone in detention who is connected to X child and leave a name.”

ORR has funneled these children into a patchwork of shelters and foster homes overseen by organizations including

Bethany, which has long faced accusations of

    discriminating against LGBTQ couples and

coercing parents into giving up babies for adoption.

ORR director, Scott Lloyd, who blocked young people in ORR custody from accessing abortion care.

    Nothing
in Lloyd’s professional background suggests he is qualified to head ORR,

yet he’s been tasked with overseeing the day-to-day care of the country’s most vulnerable people: child refugees,

many of whom came to the United States to escape persecution and gender-based violence.

“If you are in a religiously affiliated shelter, you get kicked out for even asking for an abortion,”

young people in ORR custody were being denied access to care, even in
    instances of rape.

since the policy emerged from ORR that was trying to force migrants to have children, I’ve worried this was always about getting babies [away from migrants for adoption],”

Christian adoption agencies like Bethany have “a pattern and history of coercing women to relinquish their children,”

Much like ORR’s director, Bethany has gone to great lengths to dissuade people from seeking abortions, raising questions about access to reproductive health services for migrant youths in their care, many of whom may be sexually assaulted en route to the United States.

    1. Bethany has several federal contracts.

    2. Bethany has a record of coercive adoption practices.

    3. Bethany has a record of discriminating against LGBTQ couples.

    4. Bethany has benefited from figures within the Trump administration.

Defendants In Diapers? Immigrant Toddlers Ordered To Appear In Court Alone

immigrant children as young as 3 are being ordered into court for their own deportation proceedings, according to attorneys in Texas, California and Washington, D.C.

Requiring unaccompanied minors to go through deportation alone is not a new practice.

But in the wake of the Trump administration’s controversial family separation policy, more young children — including toddlers — are being affected than in the past.

The 2,000-plus children will likely need to deal with court proceedings even as they grapple with the ongoing trauma of being taken from their parents.

“We were representing a 3-year-old in court recently who had been separated from the parents. And

the child — in the middle of the hearing — started climbing up on the table,”

said Lindsay Toczylowski, executive director of Immigrant Defenders Law Center in Los Angeles.

    “It really highlighted

the absurdity of what we’re doing with these kids.”

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, which oversees the deportations of unauthorized immigrants, did not respond to a request for comment.

Toczylowski said parents typically have been tried along with young children and have explained the often-violent cir stances that led them to seek asylum in the U.S.

Stephen Miller roiling nation with back-channel immigration meetings

The president’s senior policy adviser owns immigration. And he isn’t interested in sharing it

For the past two months, a handful of immigration hawks from across the government have assembled in Stephen Miller’s West Wing office on a weekly basis to chart the course of the Trump administration’s immigration policy.

Led by Miller, President Donald Trump’s senior policy adviser and the architect of his hard-line approach to immigration,

the meetings have replaced the usual interagency process involving key agency officials and remained largely out of view to the rest of the administration.

The secretive nature of the effort was born of Miller’s assumption that hostile bureaucrats would try to undermine the administration’s aggressive policies before they got off the ground,

by leaking to the news media or pushing alternative proposals to senior officials.

But the opacity has had a ripple effect throughout the administration,

causing consternation and confusion within the government agencies that have to carry out the policies.

Without an organized policy and communications strategy integrating the input of key agencies,

senior administration officials have been caught unaware by major policy announcements,

and confusion has ensued about how to carry them out,

according to administration officials and outside advisers who support Trump’s immigration agenda.

“You can’t implement big policies from the White House without working with the agencies that are going to be carrying it out,”

Seeking a split from ICE, some agents say Trump’s immigration crackdown hurts investigations and morale

The political backlash against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has turned so intense that

leaders of the agency’s criminal investigative division sent a letter last week to Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen urging an organizational split.

The letter, signed by the majority of special agents in charge of ICE’s Homeland Security Investigative Division (HSI), offered a window into growing internal tension at the agency as an “Abolish ICE” protest movement has targeted its offices and won support from left-wing Democrats.

Though ICE is primarily known for immigration enforcement, the

    agency has two distinct divisions:

Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), a branch that carries out immigration arrests and deportations, and

HSI, the transnational investigative branch with a broad focus on counterterrorism, narcotics enforcement, human trafficking and other crimes.

The letter signed by 19 special agents in charge urges Nielsen to split HSI from ICE,

because anger at ERO immigration practices is harming the entire agency’s reputation and

undermining other law enforcement agencies’ willingness to cooperate, the agents told Nielsen.

Trump administration plans to detain migrant families for months

The Trump administration plans to detain migrant families together in custody rather than release them, according to a new court filing that suggests such detentions could last longer than the 20 days envisioned by a court settlement.

“The government will not separate families but detain families together during the pendency of immigration proceedings when they are apprehended at or between ports of entry,” Justice Department lawyers wrote

Trump Admin Issues Report Telling Other Countries Not to Separate Children From Families

The Trump Administration released a report on Thursday warning that

children removed from their families and placed into state care are at greater risk of extreme harm than if they had stayed with their parents.

The report is produced by the State Department each year. Under the section led “Child Ins utionalization and Human Trafficking,” this year’s report begins:

The international community agrees that a family caregiving setting, or an alternative solution that is appropriate and culturally sensitive, is the most conducive environment for the growth, well-being, and safety of children.

Removal of a child from the family should only be considered as a temporary, last resort.

    Studies have found that both

private and government-run residential ins utions for children,

or places such as orphanages and psychiatric wards that do not offer a family-based setting,

cannot replicate the emotional companionship and attention found in family environments that are prerequisites to healthy cognitive development.

Whistleblower Leaks Video From Detention Facility Where Children Were Threatened Against Speaking to Press

a child crying and asking to speak with her mother and an employee ominously warning children that speaking to the press could endanger their immigration case.

another worker is heard telling a group of children that they shouldn't talk to the press about the detention center—and suggesting that doing so could keep them away from their parents and in detention for even longer.

"If for whatever reason you tell a reporter—you know what's going to happen to your case?

It is going to be on the news, and then one doesn't know what is going to happen—

if you are going to last here for a long time. I am not trying to scare you.

I am just telling you, it's the truth.

You have to be careful not to talk," the employee is heard saying.
