Poor Messi will probably retire from international play, deserved better. But true to be said Maradona and Zidane carried their teams all the way to finals, when past their prime and were mundial Champions when in their prime. Ronaldo has a chance to prove himself better that Messi, once and forever.

If it makes midgetfan feel any better, GOATnaldo will most likely get eliminated today as well and if by a miracle Portugal makes it through, they will get demolished by France as well. Specially after the events of the last Euro final.

Just let messi retire already. Dybala, Icardi etc all young stars will never have a chance with messi playing.

They also hadn't finished as good as 2014 since 1990. But that doesn't matter now, I guess.

    It doesn't. 1990 doesn't matter. '78 and '86 does.

Then 2002 and this elimination is the same as any other. Why even bring it up?

Because we always moved on when like that happened, that's why. You don't give yourself a better chance with chokers that lost one final after another against inferior teams.

The are you talking about? After losing in the first round in 2002 Bielsa got re-hired.

Then he quit, and didn't make it to the next world cup. And the entire batch of players was replaced with this generation. We moved on.

This team was the oldest average in age, we held on to a bunch of losers for too long.

Instead of losing in finals it will be back to endless quarterfinals finishes. Can't wait, tbh.

2006 wasn't this generation son. Ayala, Heinze, Sorín, Crespo, etc. All 2002 players.

Tevez, Riquleme, even Messi played that World Cup. We didn't get stuck with the same old Piojo Lopez.

Well, Armani, Mercado, Otamendi, Tagliafico, Meza, Pavón, etc. played on this World Cup. In the original list, only 8 players from the previous WC were back. About the same amount that played in 2002 and 2006, tbh.
