With what we know now, Spurs should just ride it out with him this year. A number of things can happen by the deadline, like the Honnymoon ends sooner than expected if the Lakers stumble out of the gate and James starts to agitate for Lakers to make a serious offer; Philly sees their gap with Boston grow and they get antsy; or some dark horse who has a surprise seasons feels they’re a peice away for a deep run next year.

Whats more at this point, we all expect the spurs to get severely lowballed. Do they really want Saric/RoCo or Kuzma/Deng NOW, if they can just get those types of players during free agency in 2019 after Leonard walks? What’s the point?

It is not a money issue. The supermax won't keep Kawhi in San Antonio. He wants out and will not be playing for the spurs next year. The Spurs will cave in and take a Laker trade. They are not going to want to deal with the drama all season long by keeping Kawhi.
