Spurs ponied up and gave Kawhi his MAX. Of course, he then only played, and looks to only play two seasons of the five, four if you count the option.
And there was drama with that deal as well with Kawhi's agent and the Spurs.

This scenario has 3 guys though, not two.
yea well let's say ball has nothing to say tbh. And if LA keeps Lonzo along with Kawhi - that's crazy

I could have this wrong, but s I recall, they asked him to wait so they could sign LMA. They thought he'd be cool with it as it was good for the team, but he was insulted by the waiting. In retrospect, signs of things to come.

You'd be better off arguing with a brick wall. YGWHI has Kawhi's so far down his throat, I'm amazed he has the breath to spin this bull .
Kawhi could his girlfriend he would still make excuses. I could see him saying "Well Kawhi didnt do it on purpose and it was an accident. They just both slipped and Kawhi fell on top of her."

Yeah, at some point you have to take a stand. If some can just neg out on 3 years left on his contract then what's the point of guaranteed contracts anymore. I really hope the front office and ownership don't budge and get the league involved.
The socially awkward mute is going to find it extremely uncomfortable playing in front of Spurs fans if he has to suit up. It'll be a great punishment.

    You really don't get this...
So quit spinning this as non-communication. It's that KL threw the entire team's season under the bus.
Exactly, he quit on a playoff team. Now that the Spurs don't have to pretend that this didn't happen or that there's still a chance at reconciling he can be dealt with appropriately.

Not sure why Kawhi would want to play with the likes of LeBron James and Lonzo Ball? Yeah its home and yeah its L.A, which could mean more endorsements, but Kawhi needs the ball in his hands to be effective. Same goes for LeBron. I don't see it working all too good if they actually do play together.

I think the Clippers are a better fit if Kawhi wants to be the man and be playing at home.
The Clippers don't have anything worth trading for. Keeping Kawhi and getting nothing in return is a better option than taking whatever trash the Clippers would offer. Trade him to Philly or another team out East. Either he re-signs there or he loses out on money going to LA.

That to me is the main issue here. This will set a bad precedent not just for the Spurs but for the rest of the league. If a player doesn't want to play for you he could just do what Kawhi did which is find a doctor that will allow you to sit out with a medical holdout.

I mean Eric Gordon already did this when NO didn't let him go to PHX to be the Cornerstone, and nothing came of it so I doubt anything gets done.

Pretty amazing that that dip Len wants to go to the Lakers when they won’t even put together a package to obtain him, they’re willing to put him in a position where he has to sit out the year. Guy is a full on re .
And it will cost him money if they don't trade for him too. Maybe RC hoping to call out his bluff works after all. He did say they hope to repair the relationship anyways. Sometimes it gets really ugly b4 it gets better.

    1. It's a business. LeBron is out there to look out for himself. He has already pulled stuff like this b4 so it shouldn't surprise you at all.
    2. No worse than the backstabbing from Leonard.
    3. LeBron had all the leverage in what team he wanted to play for and what teammates. If he saw the Lakers were going to have to give too much he could tell Magic. Unfortunately bc Kiwi will be a FA next season there's not much the Spurs can do. RC said they hoped to repair the relationship and that's where they are stuck. If his hardball backfires on RC it's part of the business.
    4. There's very few to no scenario where the Spurs are ahead in all of this anyways unless they can reach an agreement with Leonard and repair the relationship.
Yes there is one but only if the Spurs have been prudent enough to privately investigate the situation and have some evidence of some fraud. In this case, bacause of the tampering rule, they can receive compensation from the Lakers of multiple first round picks without giving up any asset...and at the same time destroy Kiwhi's career.

Yeah I don't know how far the union will support him now that it's clear this is not about a second medical opinion but rather forcing his way to another team. NBA players have it good with the proportion of long term deals that is usually guaranteed.

Sometimes, yes. If it means sending a message along with freeing up a ton of cap space while increasing chances for a better pick.

You are probably right, but that was two small market teams. Kawhi to Lakers is a national story with a lot of exposure. I think that can change the equation.

At this point it’s best to just let Kawhi play into the season to show if he’s actually healthy and go from there.
How possible is that though? I can't see Kawhi facing the music. I would bet he does everything not to go which would force the Spurs to go to litigation... then at that point, it seems Kawhi would almost be forced to accept a trade almost anywhere and maybe a sign and trade to boot. I have no idea what the CBA says on a situation like this, but from what I have heard, it seems like Kawhi could really be painting himself into a corner. Still, though, how would he be able to suit up and play again unless he just sucked it up and said "I'm sorry, please forgive me"? We all know that ain't happenin. Uncle Dennis underestimated his hand and the workings of the league it appears.

Theres not a chance hes coming back. When the players had that meeting with Kawhi it wasn't just thought of by Parker/Manu, Pop talked to them probably before it. Hes so far out the door, its just a matter of what trade they will pull off.
    Remember this headline?

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...yoffs/2079103/

But if anything is a given with the Spurs, it's that players buy into the system and culture and the franchise has no problem jettisoning players who don't.

Kawhi and his group have tried to tarnish the credibility of the Spurs and Pop. You guys are delusional if you think they would ever have him play with this team again.

Still don't know why a Knicks trade has never been seriously discussed.

Kawhi for Porzingis and filler or picks to make the salaries work.

Knicks get the best player. Now, they're set to attract Kyrie who is rumored to want to go there. And Kyrie's dad and Uncle D are buds and can plot a Gotham super team to their hearts' content.

Kawhi and Uncle D get the biggest market possible too. Rumor was Kawhi began to like New York when rehabbing there.

Porzingis gets a real organization to develop him. Not Dolan chaos.

Spurs get a player coming off an injury, so a risk, but a ceiling higher than anything the Lakers are offering or Philly since they wouldn't include Simmons. They also put KL in the East.

I get to make Latvian references with impunity.

    Winners all around.

Depends. I'd rather get nothing if the options are only Clippers trash or the Lakers (unless they make a "godfather" offer which is unlikely). The very slim odds that Kawhi would stay or help the team win a championship would be a better return than those situations.

Kawhi getting re-signed to the supermax isn't gonna happen but that would be worst case scenario for me tbh.

I don't want to see that got's name mentioned with the Spurs unless it's a trade or a suspension.
