It's too bad there isn't an out in the CBA until 2022, because you'd think owners would start pushing for non-guranteed NFL style contracts now that they see even one of the most successful franchises have their star hold out on them and still pull a max salary paycheck. I'm tempted to trade that mute piece of to Golden State for Iguodala just as a big you to Magic.

I actually thought about that the other day. Just sending Kawhi for scraps to Golden State. In a sick way I feel that would be setting the basketball world on fire and like you said sending a big you to Kawhi and the Lakers.

That article also painted Uncle Dennis and the agent in a not so flattering light. No surprise that rankled him.

Only thing that comes to mind is that ESPN article a couple months back in which somebody in the front office said they thought this was all a ruse to get Leonard traded to a large market.
    I think it is.

Even if we take this as genuine, it's clear what a mistake having your uncle as your rep is. If your agent gets his feelings hurt he realizes a) its just business b) it probably wasn't intentional and c) I'd better get over it because I have other clients and I need to deal with this franchise.

But when he's your uncle, he cries to his client/nephew "they're excluding you're family." And the sad thing is Kawhi believes this.

Was it quoted from someone in the FO, or just the ole' ESPN "sources say' etc...?

And the relationship with his uncle is probably even more delicate since his dad passed. He became more involved and closer with Kawhi

Everything I read was he hated the Knicks, but you're right that's not the same as hating NY. I think KP is hungry to be developed. I'm sure he'd be happy to let Pop and the Spurs staff improve his game.

If Dolan sells everything could change though.
Yep, I meant NY the city. He enjoys the spotlight and the lifestyle that comes with it. I remember reading somewhere that he was actually afraid that Phil Jackson would move him.

Getting nothing is better than getting something?
If you're OKC are you pissed you didn't trade Durant to the Warriors before and thus missed out on Harrison Barnes? If you're not getting a useful piece what's the point?

This guy is in Jersey. Connected with Uncle Dennis maybe?

    lol what bull .

If this was true, Kawhi would be fine with moving anywhere as long as he is gone, but no, he wants to be a Laker and a Laker only.

Just shut the up and own up to your gotry Kawhi.

Again I was responding to those essentially disqualifying the Clippers and saying getting nothing back is better than trading with them. Why? If they’re the only desperate team then yeah I’ll happily take their picks and expiring contracts. The whole “prove a point by sitting on Kawhi” isn’t worth much to me.

Another way to read this is as a final stab at getting the supermax. It's almost a blue print for reconciliation from the KL side. Just 1) admit your doctors screwed up 2) apologize to Uncle D and give him the respect he feels he deserves 3) make some sort of apology (public or not) for having put Kawhi's family "through this media ordeal" and 4) give us the supermax.

That, or its just trying to win the spin war, and the thing is irreparable.

Also committing $200+ mil over 5 years to a 29 yo perimeter player with apparently a chronic quad issue entails some risk. At the end of the day you want something near actual value in trade return, but if not you're better off keeping your cap clear and rebuilding. Pop's gone after 2020 anyways reading the tea leaves.

Possibly, on account of the salary cap. Getting players you don’t really want chews up space that could go to players you do want.
And low draft picks are like getting trinkets from the dollar store. Why bother?

Why not the sit down with ESPN? I guess that's coming.

Exactly.. Said that too, if he wanted out he would want out anywhere.

Everyone who is reporting on this makes it seem like it's irreparable. But who knows what would happen if the supermax was offered.

Please, tell the world how a player was victimized by a $90 million contract and expectation that he fulfill it.

Thats like saying I’m dying of thirst but that water bottle is too small so why bother. Take the cap out of it. I’m talking about a deal for expiring contracts and picks. If you can find a deal like that, it’s not worth bothering because you’re not getting an all star back? Because you want to make some point? No, you make the deal.

Of course if your choices are do nothing, or trade him for albatross contracts, you do nothing.

Why offer any extension to someone who apparently thinks long term contracts are optional?

Low draft picks are worse than that, since a late first is essentially second round talent you're forced to give a two year contract to. For years the Spurs would just give those picks away since they had negative value to the team.
