In this case, I'd much rather the Spurs get absolutely nothing for Kawhi and make him sit out another season with his "injury."

This guy is in Jersey. Connected with Uncle Dennis maybe?

This fool is on NBA Radio (Sirrius XM). Most of those guys are trashing the Spurs with no facts. The Spurs Organization does not talk much and this guy has no clue what was REALLY said. So annoying that lies and rumors become fact is this sick situation.

Low draft picks are worse than that, since a late first is essentially second round talent you're forced to give a two year contract to. For years the Spurs would just give those picks away since they had negative value to the team.
This is just a horrendously bad take.

What's a joke is his first tweet. Scapegoating? Yeah, seven other doctors agreed with the Spurs medical staff. Some hack doc who probably got his palms greased by uncle Dennis and the car trunk street agent finally agreed to say he wasn't healthy.

Answer him that if he was real about wanting out of the Spurs, he would be cool with going anywhere. Not the Lakers and Lakers only.

Why I agree with you on not trading kawhi, late are not negative value. We've repeatedly demonstrated the ability to get a decent, sometimes starter level, players out of late firsts: recently,
Anderson has given us good minutes, so has Dejounte (and we have higher hopes for him). White is promising.

He doesn't remember this stuff coming out BEFORE Tony's remarks?? And don't consider anything pop said to be disrespectful. Just a matter of fact reply. Spurs weren't calling the shots at that point. Was Pop supposed to cover for him while keeping him in the dark?

I want to know when the Spurs have ever "demonized" Kawhi's family? I guarantee they've never said anything negative about KL's family other than potentially Uncle Dennis. And even he, not publicly that I can recall. I guess Pop saying "ask his group" is a declaration of war? Puh-lease. This is all an excuse to get out of town in the most awkward way possible.
The only statement that I have heard from the Spurs about his family was the one a few weeks ago where RC Stated in an interview that the organization cared about Leonard and his family.

The crazy thing thing is that all of these comments and tweets against the spurs are making things worse for Leonard and will cost him millions when this is over.

This is perhaps the lamest reason for not playing when you could. Spurs were mean to me when it was clear I had quit on the team. that joker.

Kawhi trade demand rumors started much earlier than May. Dump him on an EC team and move on.

The bottom line is that if there's no chance to resign this dude, then the Spurs should trade him for something they value. Whether that's prospects, draft picks, players that can contribute, or a mix, whatever. I have no clue what true leverage they have, but I suspect it's not very good but they still have some. For one, by trading for him a team retains bird rights. That's not insignificant. Of course these guys don't realize how much money they're burning so maybe that doesn't matter.

But while the Spurs aren't going to be contenders, its obvious they're not going to tank. If they can get back players that contribute - even if its pennies on the dollar - then there's value in that. If they can get back draft picks, there's obvious value in that too. If they can get a prospect that might develop then there's value in that too. There's zero value in letting him walk if the relationship is irreparable.

Is there value in waiting to trade him? Well, it depends, obviously, on whether or not offers will get better. I don't think they will. It's possible that at the deadline a team in contention would trade for him to put them over the top, but that seems doubtful. I really don't see any scenarios where waiting to the deadline is better, but who knows.

for the league: no way, Magic and Lebron wait until 2019 and give Kawhi his pay, this is a situation that only Kawhi will have some victory at the end, unfortunately this is a league of players now (Kawhi seems calm in losing this money to leave San Antonio.)

Theres not a chance hes coming back. When the players had that meeting with Kawhi it wasn't just thought of by Parker/Manu, Pop talked to them probably before it. Hes so far out the door, its just a matter of what trade they will pull off.
    Remember this headline?

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...yoffs/2079103/

But if anything is a given with the Spurs, it's that players buy into the system and culture and the franchise has no problem jettisoning players who don't.

Kawhi and his group have tried to tarnish the credibility of the Spurs and Pop. You guys are delusional if you think they would ever have him play with this team again.
    Nah

Some people obsess over the price of a cup of coffee and others blow millions. That's his money though would it be surprising if it's reported later that he lost a lot of his assets?

Are there any teams who have players under contract for a few years that are trying to shed contracts to get under the cap for 2019 who wouldn't mind renting Kawhi for a year? A team that has players of value who are under contract for a couple of years that aren't too bad that the Spurs could use?

Its a league that now unfortunately is run by super stars. It is slowly taking the fun away from watching the game. Something needs to be done. I am not all about giving full control to the owners and treating players like slaves, but something has to be done to prevent what is happening now. Its not enough that they are being paid tens of millions of dollars a season to play a game of basketball for a living?
